In November, the golf scene turns its attention to the Pelican Golf Club in Florida, where Kai Trump, a participant whose starting place has been secured by her reach and background, is causing a stir. The 18-year-old granddaughter of US President Donald Trump is about to make her debut on the LPGA Tour. She received a coveted sponsor's exemption for the tournament "The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican" (November 13-16) initiated by Annika Sörenstam.
The organizers' decision is strategic: the participation of the amateur, who will begin her college golf studies at the University of Miami next year, is intended to open up new target groups for women's golf.
The prestigious event, one of the last highlights on the LPGA calendar with prize money of $3.25 million, traditionally brings together the world's elite, including reigning title holder Nelly Korda and Major winner Lilia Vu. For the young golfer, the invitation is confirmation of her ambitions. Kai Trump, eldest daughter of Donald Trump Jr, was overwhelmed by the opportunity to compete with her role models:
"My dream has been to compete with the best in the world on the LPGA Tour and I am thrilled to be able to do so," said Trump. She added: "This event will be an incredible experience. I am looking forward to meeting and competing against so many of my heroines and mentors in golf as I make my LPGA Tour debut."

Awarding a sponsor invitation is a common instrument in professional sport, but in Trump's case it primarily serves to maximize attention. The reason is obvious: Kai Trump is a strong influencer on social media and has a combined reach of more than 6 million followers across various channels.
This digital influence was the central argument of the tournament organizers. Justin Sheehan, Director of Golf and COO of Pelican Golf Club, emphasized the importance for the sport's development: "Kai Trump has a tremendous passion for the game and is expanding the sport to a wider audience," Sheehan explained.
The LPGA also sees the nomination as a targeted marketing measure to attract new fans. Ricki Lasky, Chief Tour Business and Operations Officer of the LPGA, explained the strategic view: "Sponsor invitations are an important way to spotlight emerging talent and bring new attention to our tournaments and the LPGA," said Lasky. She emphasized that "Kai's large fan base and reach help introduce golf to a new audience, especially among younger fans."
In sporting terms, the amateur, who is currently ranked 461st in the AJGA Girls Ranking, still has the leap to the professional league ahead of her. She is currently preparing for her college career with the Miami Hurricanes. Her sponsor exemption joins the likes of established college golfers Anne-Sterre den Dunnen (Wake Forest) and Lauryn Nguyen (Northwestern), who also received an invitation. WNBA star Caitlin Clark's repeated participation in the traditional Pro-Am on November 12 will provide additional media coverage.
