The LPGA Tour: The North American tournament series also stops by in Europe

Anyone interested in women's golf cannot ignore the North American tournament series of the Ladies Professional Gold Association based in Daytona Beach. The LPGA Tour is held every week between February and November. In 2006, the prize money for the renowned series exceeded 50 million dollars for the first time.

The most important LPGA tournaments

Most events in the Women's PGA Championship tournament series are held in the USA. Since 2006, there has also been a Women's Open with one tournament in Canada and two in Mexico. The European sister organization Ladies European Tour has now also joined the series. The most famous women's golf events in Europe are the Evian Championship in France and the Women's Open. At the end of the season, there will also be an event in South Korea and another in Japan. A new tournament in the LPGA series in Thailand has been added. Here is an overview of the most important major championships:

High-caliber field of female participants

The Women's PGA Championship tournaments have always been top-class. At first, they were dominated by female US players. But with Vivien Saunders, the first female golfer not living in the USA won the tour back in 1969. 122 participants from 27 countries started in 2009. There is now a large contingent of top players from all over the world, with South Korean players making up the strongest group in terms of numbers in recent years. In 2016, five of them also took the top 10 places.

Most famous players on the LPGA Tour

The tournament ranking is based on a money ranking. The most successful female golfer in recent years was Nelly Korda. Although the American has only been playing professionally since 2017, she has already won two LPGA majors. As part of the tour, she secured a total of 15 tournament victories. Hamburg-based Esther Henseleit has now firmly established herself on the LPGA Tour and also won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris. She is currently the best German player on the LPGA Tour.

The LPGA Championship ranking

The LPGA Tour season ranking is called “Race to the CME Globe” and works, as usual on most golf tours, by scoring points at the individual tournaments. At the end of the season, there is a final tournament, the CME Group Tour Championship, in which the 60 best players in the season standings can participate.

Other tournament series on the tour

In addition to the LPGA Tour, the smaller Symetra Tour has become established. There is also a qualifying school where you can qualify for next season's LPGA series or Symetra Tour.
