Stacy Lewis, one of the most influential figures in women's golf over the last two decades, has announced her retirement from professional golf. The former world number one will end her career at the end of the 2025 LPGA season. The announcement was made in the home of her sporting roots, ahead of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship - a tournament where she celebrated her first professional victory on the LPGA Tour as an amateur in 2007. This decision marks the end of one of the most remarkable careers in women's golf, characterized by sporting triumphs and personal resilience.
Lewis' path to the top was anything but ordinary. She was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of just eleven and had to wear a back brace for seven years. It was only after a complicated operation shortly before starting college that she was able to pursue her sporting dreams again. She drew enormous mental strength from this difficult phase, which made her one of the most successful players of her generation.
Her sporting record speaks for itself: a total of 13 LPGA titles, including two Major victories at the 2011 Chevron Championship and the 2013 Women's British Open. She topped the world rankings for a total of 25 weeks and was named LPGA Players of the Year twice, in 2012 and 2014. She also made a lasting impression as a player in the Solheim Cup, the most prestigious team competition in women's golf, and most recently as the victorious captain of the US team in 2024.

Stacy Lewis was more than just a golfer; she was a champion for the Tour and an inspirational figure. In her farewell speech, she emphasized that her body had signaled her retirement, but at the same time she was extremely proud of the development she was able to witness and help shape in women's golf.
She made a passionate appeal to her fellow players to take responsibility for the future of the Tour: "I have treated the LPGA Tour like my own child and I am so proud of the progress we have made, but to my fellow players: We're not done yet! I hope you all continue to move the Tour forward and do everything you can to help on and off the course."
