Last DGL match day provides excitement, surprises and low scores
Wiesbaden, July 21, 2025 - The decision has been made. The participants in this year's Final Four (August 2/3, GC Munich-Riedhof) have been decided. While the double match day of the 1st Bundesliga North at G&LC Berlin-Wannsee remains exciting until the last Putt, the South still has a little surprise in store in the fifth round of the German Golf League (DGL) presented by All4Golf.
Things got really exciting on the fifth and final DGL match day in the women's 1st Bundesliga Nord, as the hosts from G&LC Berlin-Wannsee were able to make the most of their home advantage. Thanks to a confident performance in front of their own crowd and the support of tour player Alexandra Försterling, they fought their way to victory on the day. Because the women of the reigning German champions from Hamburg only came fourth, the Berliners even won the relay - in the end with a two-point lead. Miriam Hiller, sports director at Wannsee, drew a positive conclusion: "I'm delighted that our women played so convincingly. It was incredibly exciting, especially for second place. We can now go into the Final Four with confidence and are delighted to be there." Lucky for Falkenstein: The Hamburg team is the second team from the north to reach the Final Four - tied on points with Hubbelrath, but with a better stroke ratio. HGC coach Luis Schmid: "We're happy to be playing at Riedhof in two weeks' time. It was a tight affair today. It didn't look good for us at times. The fact that we had to hope for a shoot-out in the end was obviously not what we wanted. But we are happy to have qualified." GC Hannover is relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga as bottom of the table.
In the women's southern league, everything was pretty much clear before the last matchday. St. Leon-Rot had long since booked their place in the Final Four, but also left little to be desired in the final round and secured the perfect season (25 points).
"Short and sweet, five out of five - that's as good as it gets. Although there was nothing left to play for, we were hungry on Sunday. The team has never played together in this constellation before, but it delivered. We are proud of this performance and the performance of our youngest Yoo Jin Bae with the best score of the entire team," said coach Sebastian Buhl. They want to spend the next few weeks fine-tuning their game so that they are fit and well prepared for the Final Four. The girls from Stuttgart will also be there. Coach Heiko Burkhart's team will travel to the Bavarian capital for the big showdown in second place in the South. "We knew that nothing could happen in Nuremberg. That's why we started with a different squad and made some changes. Congratulations to St. Leon-Rot. We hope to see them again in the final," said Burkhart. For GC am Reichswald, it's back down to league two after just one year.

The men from GC Hubbelrath were already the league leaders before the last DGL match day at Wannsee. The team from Düsseldorf were therefore able to take a relaxed approach - with a new goal: "We were leading with 48 strokes before the matchday, but we weren't the team with the most Birdies. We wanted to turn that around. We actually had all the prerequisites to play really low here. The course condition was phenomenal and the weather also played along. It was great because the guys did their thing. Now we're looking forward to Riedhof," said Hubbelrath coach Alex Schmitt. The big question was: Who will accompany Hubbelrath to the showdown in Bavaria's state capital? It is GC Hösel, who were able to take advantage of their good starting position and beat the hosts from Wannsee in the overall standings. Hösel's coach Dawie Stander: "It was an incredible performance by the boys." However, participation in the Final Four is not enough. Now Hösel wants to become German champions. Stander: "That's possible with this team. And anyone can beat anyone in match play." The men from the GC Hannover have been relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga after just one year at the top.
They have actually made it. Even before the last match day of the 1st Bundesliga Süd, the men from the Munich GC had announced that they wanted to win the day at the Mannheim-Viernheim GC. Mission accomplished. Coach Arne Dickel's MGC team won with a total of -24 just ahead of champions St. Leon-Rot and snatched the lead in the table at the last moment. "I'm really proud of my boys. I can't really grasp it yet, but we are now going into the Final Four in first place and want to become German champions," explained MGC coach Dickel. In fact, the plan was to come to the Riedhof as front runners in order to avoid the strong Hubbelrath team in the semi-finals. SLR coach Benjamin Schlichting takes a pragmatic view: "Of course we would have liked to win in Mannheim, but we lack experience in some situations. Now we're playing Hubbelrath in the semi-finals, but if you want to be champions, you have to beat everyone anyway." Hosts Mannheim-Viernheim celebrated a conciliatory finish. With a total of +15, the Seahawks relegated GC Augsburg to fifth place and hinted at what the goal should be after relegation to league two in 2026: a return to the upper house.
