Three rounds have been played in the German Golf League presented by All4Golf. Matchday four is coming up on June 22 - and not just in the upper house, where the final four tickets are at stake. A brief overview of the current situation in the eight Bundesliga 2 leagues.
Twice Hamburg plus twice Berlin plus once Braunschweig equals 2nd Bundesliga North Ladies. And the team from Berlin's GC Stolper Heide seems to be living up to its role as favorites. Coach Stefan Müller's team is aiming for the top. In the 2025 season, they want to get their ticket to league one. "After narrowly failing in the promotion play-off against Hanover last year, our big goal now is to win the 2nd Bundesliga North with our strong squad and then make it into the 1st Bundesliga in the promotion play-off," says Müller. After three of five match days, Stolpe (14 points) is already two points ahead of GC Hamburg Wendlohe, which is celebrating its 60th birthday this year and was unable to really make the most of its home advantage on the third DGL match day. Müller had already suspected before the season that the runner-up would play a role: "Wendlohe is a very strong newcomer to the 2nd Bundesliga North, who should not be underestimated." Two points behind the top duo are Hamburg-Walddörfer (10), who have home court in round four on June 22. Promoted Braunschweig (6) and Berlin GC Gatow (3) will have to stretch themselves mightily over the remainder of the season if they are to achieve their goal of staying in the league after all.
BGC Stolper Heide is celebrating its 30th birthday this year. It would be a nice present to the members and the club if the men's team could manage to win promotion back to the 1st Bundesliga in its anniversary year. The team is fighting for this goal with a new coach. "Following the departure of Maximilian Tscherner to GLC Berlin-Wannsee, we were able to recruit Uli Zilg, the former national men's coach, for our team. This enabled us to further increase the experience and expertise in this position," says Stefan Müller. Stolpe's performance sports coordinator emphasizes that after a year of consolidation, the team now wants to move up to the 1st Bundesliga in the 2025 season. "Anyone who has been there once naturally wants to go there again." On the first two match days, the team from the capital did a great job and twice came away as clear and confident winners. In round three, however, Stolpe only came third, but still leads the table with a total of 13 points ahead of the newly formed team from GC Hof Treudelberg (12) and GC Förde (11). Club zur Vahr (5) and Hamburg Hittfeld (4) are already well behind and will find it difficult to stay in the league.
Following its relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga in 2019, the women's team at GC Mülheim an der Ruhr has been completely reorganized. With an average age of just under 22, the team is very young, but also hungry. The promotion and thus the return to league two is not only well deserved, but also the result of years of consistent youth work. The concept is bearing fruit, which is probably also due to the fact that coach Martin Voigt is also the coach of the girls' team. In other words, he sees and knows exactly who has what it takes to fight for points with the women's team. In addition to the fresh talent from the team's own talent pool, a few experienced newcomers have also joined the team, meaning that the squad represents a very good mix for the challenge of the 2nd Bundesliga. "As a promoted team, our goal is to stay in the league," say club spokeswomen Alexandra Brock and Carolin Brinken. This mission seems to be very successful, as Mülheim leads the table after three rounds in the 2nd Bundesliga West with a total of 14 points ahead of the ambitious Düsseldorf team (12). The duo will probably decide the title between themselves, as the remaining teams from Paderborn (7), von Aldruper Heide and Zur Vahr (6 each) are already well behind the leaders.
The men of GC Essen-Heidhausen have started the 2025 DGL season with a new double lead: Long-time non-playing captain Thomas Werner has stepped back from direct responsibility and handed over the helm to Malte Alberts and sports manager Andreas Orléans. The team's coach is still Hauke Wagner, who has formulated a clear goal for the season with his team: To be promoted back to the 1st Bundesliga. It was precisely there that the team from Essen showed that they can hold their own in the German top flight, especially at the 2024 home fixture, as the team sensationally won the day at home ahead of Hubbelrath and Berlin-Wannsee. After three rounds in 2025, Essen leads the tableau with 14 points ahead of Burgdorfer GC (12), which has the right to play at home on the fourth matchday on June 22. The BGC had strengthened its squad with Max Oelfke, among others, who brings a lot of experience from the 1st Bundesliga. And Burgdorf's coach is unequivocal when announcing his goal for the season: "We want to reach the promotion play-off." At the moment, only Essen stands in the way. G&LC Cologne (8), Gütersloh (6) and Marienburg (5) are fighting against relegation.
The women's 2nd Bundesliga Mitte couldn't be much more exciting. After three of five match days in the German Golf League (DGL) presented by All4Golf, the top three teams are just four strokes apart. GC Neuhof, Erste GC Westpfalz and Marienburger GC have already won one matchday each. "Our goal for the season is to stay in the class. We were already satisfied with third place on the first match day. That's why we were completely surprised to win the second round. Our young girls have grown together into an incredibly great team that always impresses with its strong performance," said Westpfalz captain Christine Baeck. They have higher goals in Neuhof, where they definitely want to have a say when it comes to the championship. They are baking smaller rolls in Heddesheim and Mannheim-Viernheim. The duo are already bottom of the table and will have to deal with the 2026 regional league. Bitter news for Mannheim: it's not just the women who are bottom of the table in the 2025 season.
The men's Bundesliga 2 Mitte is more evenly matched than ever before. Four out of five teams set themselves the goal of competing for promotion before the season. The men from GC Neuhof are right on target. After two away wins in Nuremberg and Rheinhessen and a second place in round three in Stuttgart, Max Röhrig's team is clearly in first place with 14 points. The GCN's low scores are particularly impressive. There was still some sand in the gears at the start of the season for Stuttgart, who were relegated from the first division and signed a prominent coach in Florian Fritsch, who is expected to lead the team back into league one in the medium to long term. After a bumpy start, Solitude got back on track with a win on the day at home, which had to be played in cold and wet conditions, and is now level on points with Reichswald in mid-table - just one point behind Heddesheim, who fielded a former tour player in Allen John in round three. Rheinhessen are as good as certain to be relegated after another last-place finish.
"I think we have a good chance of winning the matchday in Augsburg," said Michael Heffner before the third matchday. His feeling was not wrong. The coach of the women's team from the 1st GC Fürth came out on top in round three ahead of hosts Augsburg and GC Starnberg and is now the sole leader of the table with twelve points. The women's 2nd Bundesliga Süd is firmly in Bavarian hands anyway. Only the GC Domäne Niederreutin has crept into the white-blue phalanx. The ladies from the Bernhard Langer Club GC Augsburg made full use of their home advantage in round three and returned to the battle for the top places. The Swabians were unimpressed by the cold and wet weather on their own course and focused on fun and team spirit in their second season in the second division. "We want to play every round with passion, continue to grow as a team, push each other and make our mark on the Fairways of the league," says GCA captain Cordula Schöllhorn. However, bottom team Niederreutin has also already collected seven points and is close to the safety zone.
The men from GC Am Habsberg have a clear mission: promotion to league one. And Peter Wolfenstetter's team is right on target after three of five rounds. "We came close last year and will try to perform as well as possible again this DGL season," says coach Wolfenstetter. He is an old hand in DGL matters. in 2019, he won the Final Four with Stuttgart's GC Solitude and took the title of German Team Champion. After two away wins at promoted Bad Wörishofen and Feldafing and a third-place finish in Olching, his team has a commanding 13-point lead over their closest rivals from Feldafing and Olching (9 points each). The traditional club from Feldafing, which will celebrate its 100th birthday next year and whose men are coached by senior major player Thomas Gögele, see themselves as "winners of hearts". In round three in Olching, they even managed a surprising five points and victory on the day. Match day four will take place on June 22 at the GC München Valley course - and that's exactly where leaders Habsberg want to extend their lead.
