Who will buy the last tickets for the Final Four at GC München-Riedhof? And who will be relegated from the 1st Bundesliga? The fifth and final match day of the German Golf League presented by All4Golf on July 19/20 will bring the eagerly awaited decisions. The men's and women's teams in the North will meet for a double matchday at G&LC Berlin-Wannsee, while the South will play at Reichswald (women) and Mannheim-Viernheim (men).
Four match days, four times the same result in the women's 1st Bundesliga South: The team from GC St. Leon-Rot (full 20 points) won all rounds ahead of Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Munich. As a result, Team SLR has qualified for the Final Four at Riedhof (August 2/3). The runners-up from Stuttgart's GC Solitude (16) are also as good as guaranteed a place in the showdown. Mathematically, they could still be knocked out of second place, but that is unrealistic. So the line-up for Riedhof is the same as last year. "We currently have a lot of players competing in national and international competitions. It's very important to manage the workload sensibly. That's why some younger players will be used on the last matchday. But our squad is broad enough anyway," says SLR women's coach Sebastian Buhl. he won the title with his team in 2023, but last year they were defeated in the final by the strong Hamburg team. Of course they want to win the title this time, especially as Buhl is celebrating his birthday the day before the Final Four. For the host of the last DGL match day on July 19/20, it is a kind of farewell performance. The ladies of GC Am Reichswald have been relegated after a year in the top flight.
Things are extremely exciting in the 1st Bundesliga North Ladies ahead of the last matchday: the trio of Hamburg (15 points), Berlin-Wannsee (14) and Hubbelrath (14) will be battling it out for the two coveted tickets. The fact that the ladies from the capital city have home court on the fifth and final DGL match day (July 19/20) could be a small advantage - or it could also increase the pressure, as the Wannsee team finished last year's tournament on top: Last year, the Wannsee ladies only finished third in the final sprint at home, behind Hamburg and Hubbelrath. That must not happen to the 2021 champions this time. "We'll go into our home game with confidence and a good feeling. That's been the case in recent years and that's exactly what we intend to do this year. We know how high the quality of our players is," said Berlin's sporting director Miriam Hiller. And who knows? Maybe Tour player Alexandra Försterling will even tee off for her home club Wannsee, as there are no games on the Ladies European Tour this weekend. GC Hannover's relegation from the bottom of the table is not yet sealed, but due to the significantly worse stroke ratio, it will take a miracle for the women from Lower Saxony to extend their stay in the upper house by a year, because: Their rivals Hösel (10) have three points more in their account after four rounds.
The men from champions St. Leon-Rot and Munich GC have the best chance of reaching the Final Four ahead of the last DGL match day at Mannheim-Viernheim GC (July 19/20). Both have won two match days each and both have 17 points to their name. Behind them, Frankfurt (14) is in third place and has outsider chances at best. "We're in no man's land in the table. You have to be realistic and see that the Final Four is out of reach for us," said Frankfurt coach Jan Pelz. That would mean that the men from the MGC would make it to the grand final for the first time. "That's our big goal. We want to play for the title at Riedhof, which is in our immediate neighborhood," says Munich coach Arne Dickel. Naturally, Bayern are hoping for active support from their home fans. But it's not quite that far yet. The relegation of GC Mannheim-Viernheim, on the other hand, is as good as certain. Since the DGL was founded in 2013, the Seahawks have always been in the Final Four and were even champions in 2014 and 2018. After the upheaval in 2025, the team has now been hit: "We know that we will probably be relegated. Nevertheless, we want to have a good finish with our fans and members," says Mannheim coach Michael Wolf.
Before the last match day on July 19/20 at G&LC Berlin-Wannsee, the team from DGL record champion Hubbelrath has been confirmed as a Final Four participant. It is also certain that GC Hannover will be going back down to League Two after just one year. But who will accompany Hubbelrath on the road to Riedhof? "Our men are currently in 2nd place in the league table and are close to securing their ticket to the Final Four," posted the GC Hösel officials. In fact, the team from Heiligenhaus (Mettmann district) is already three points ahead of the northern lights from Berlin and Hamburg and has the best chance of being the second team to play for the German Team Championship at the beginning of August. "We are on the verge of qualifying for the Final Four. There is still one match day to go - and we will be going all out in Berlin to finish first," said Hösel coach Dawie Stander. It would be the first time in six years that Hösel's men are back in a final. Hosts Wannsee will try everything to make the mathematical possibility possible. One conceivable scenario: The capital city team must win their home game and Hösel can at best finish fourth. The decision will be made on the afternoon of July 20.
The big goal is the Final Four at Riedhof
After five match days in the 1st Bundesliga North and South, the two best teams in each league (men's and women's) qualify for the Final Four. The 2025 German team champions will be determined in match play mode at the GC Munich-Riedhof course on August 2-3.
