Ten weeks have passed since the start of Project 0, and Lars Heuer realizes that his life has completely changed. What began as a “naive dream” is becoming increasingly tangible thanks to a top-class team of experts and precise analyses.
In the second episode of the Sky documentary, the perspective changes. It is no longer just a question of whether the goal is theoretically achievable, but about which profound mental and physical changes are necessary. Lars puts himself in the hands of biomechanics, mental trainers and doctors to program his system to zero. It quickly becomes apparent that his greatest strength — his sharp mind — is also his biggest hurdle on the golf course.
“Project 0" is the story of Lars Heuer, a 53-year-old former management consultant who made a radical decision in November 2024: He gave up his job to improve his golf handicap from 20.4 to the level of a scratch golfer (handicap 0) within one year.
This is no ordinary sports project: Lars takes financial risks and dedicates his life for 365 days to the dream of making the impossible possible. To do this, he trains up to 40 hours a week. As he himself says: “I have decided to live my dream, with all the consequences.”
Experts estimate that the chances of achieving this goal are minimal — but Lars is ready to take the full, holistic path that goes beyond pure physical training and includes the areas of mental training, nutrition and regeneration.
In the tenth week, Lars Heuer is faced with a decisive insight: His pronounced need for control is blocking his natural movement. Mental trainer Christiane Schmaler makes it clear that Lars must learn to break out of his “mental prison” in order to regain the naturalness necessary for golf. This mental journey to a better version of yourself becomes the central added value of the project. Lars openly admits: Anything he can't control scares him — but it is precisely this letting go that is the key to finally letting the ball fly.
At the same time, the project is being built on scientific foundations. Whether in biomechanical analysis under $30 cameras, orthopedic examination or detailed diet planning by Juliane Kupfer — data is collected everywhere to turn limitations into strengths. Head coach Florian Fritsch sums up the dilemma: Lars is “extremely clever,” which speeds up the cognitive learning process but often disrupts motor flow. The goal for the next few months is clearly defined: to structure the volumes of data collected in such a way that conscious control becomes automated, flowing movement.
Success in this ambitious project is only possible as a team. Lars Heuer is supervised by a first-class network of experts who work under professional conditions.
The sports management is the responsibility of renowned former professional golfer Florian Fritsch (head and swing coach), while Heinz Peter Thül (formerly Germany's No. 2 behind Bernhard Langer) provides the expertise for the short game. The team is supplemented by a putting expert, home trainer, a mental trainer, a sports nutritionist and a medical contact point. “Project 0" is also accompanied as a detailed video diary on YouTube.
