Rory McIlroy has now earned over 100 million dollars in his almost 20-year professional career. But he still remembers his first prize money well. Not because it helped him to advance his career, but because he spent it on the "worst bad buy of all time", as he confessed in a recent press conference before the BMW Championship.
There, a reporter wanted to know what he had spent his first prize money on. "A watch," replied the Northern Irishman and added: "Decorated with diamonds. It was terrible. I can't believe it - it was the worst bad purchase ever. It was so bad." However, the five-time major winner did not want to reveal exactly which model it was - out of respect for his current sponsor. "It's not the brand and model I'm currently sponsored by," said the 36-year-old, "so I won't say." McIlroy has been a testimonial for the Omega brand for years.

The superstar of the golf scene can now buy any watch he wants. And his financial cushion should continue to grow. The world number two is in second place in the FedExCup, the PGA Tour's season ranking, and will collect millions more in the last two playoff tournaments alone.
