After a record-breaking 2024 season with seven victories, Scottie Scheffler is once again setting the tone in the current PGA Tour season. His dominance is reflected not only in titles, but also in a bulging wallet. The 28-year-old has earned an average of 4,253 dollars per shot this season - a sum that comes very close to a German monthly salary. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the average gross income in Germany in 2024 was €4,340 per month (half of full-time employees earned more, the other half less).
In his 13 tournaments played so far (as of after the US Open), Scheffler has played a total of 3,568 strokes and earned prize money of over 15.17 million dollars. This achievement includes three tournament victories, including one major, the PGA Championship. His consistency is remarkable: since mid-March and the Players Championship, he has not finished lower than eighth place in any tournament. He has not missed a cut throughout the entire season and has not finished lower than T25 in any tournament.
This series of successes has not only seen him extend his lead in the world rankings (OWGR), but also give him a clear lead in the FedEx Cup. As Rory McIlroy is having a strong season, the battle for the top positions has not yet been decided. Scheffler's record to date boasts an impressive ten top ten finishes in 13 starts. He is also the first player ever to qualify for the Ryder Cup and will represent Team USA for the third time in New York in September.
This is also remarkable because Scheffler has a fabulous season to defend. The statistics for the 2024 calendar year (Olympic gold medal, seven wins including defending his title at the Masters, no missed cuts, 16 top 10 finishes in 19 starts, 30 million dollars in prize money) could also have resulted in a motivational hole. But despite a cut in his hand, which caused him to miss the start of the season in January, Scheffler is already back on track to attack his own best performances.
Just four days after the US Open, where he fought his way to 7th place on the final day, he is already competing in the next tournament. Asked about his form, Scheffler replied at his press conference ahead of the Travelers Championship: "I feel like my game is good, so I don't have to go to the driving range and feel like I have to figure something out - or something on the greens or around the greens." The competition may well take that as a warning.
