"What remains for us is to keep moving forward, keep going, never stop." In the seventh episode of Project 0, Lars Heuer experiences an emotional rollercoaster ride that begins at rock bottom and ends with tears of joy on the 18th green.
For two weeks, Lars was in a crisis that he couldn't explain. The gap between his expectations and reality was so wide that he lost all flow and enjoyment of the game. His coach Florian Fritsch put it bluntly: Lars was merely acting as a "plaything of his emotions", caught up in a "Frankenstein swing" of too much technical information. But it was only this painful analysis that enabled the radical change that led to a historic milestone in the project.
"Project 0" is the story of Lars Heuer, a 53-year-old former management consultant who made a radical decision in November 2024: he gave up his job to improve his golf handicap from 20.4 to the level of a scratch golfer (handicap 0) within a year.
This is no ordinary sports project: Lars is taking a financial risk and dedicating his life for 365 days to the dream of making the impossible possible. He trains up to 40 hours a week to achieve this. As he says himself: "I have decided to live my dream, with all the consequences." Experts estimate the chances of achieving this goal as minimal - but Lars is prepared to go the full, holistic way, which goes beyond pure physical training and includes the areas of mental training, nutrition and regeneration.
The turning point came on a joint round with Florian Fritsch. After a harsh lecture on hole 2, Lars changed his inner attitude: away from analytical overload and towards pure acceptance of the moment. "I effectively relinquished control before the moment of impact to see how controlled my ball suddenly flew," says Lars, describing this almost paradoxical moment. Suddenly the "strike" was there, the sound at the moment of impact was perfect and the balls flew to the flag with a precision that he had previously only experienced in training.
This new mental freedom bore fruit: Just two days after the lesson with Florian, Lars played the best round of his life. With a 77 (+6), he not only cracked the magic 80 mark (break 80), but also proved to himself and the golfing world that the goal of a 0 handicap is no illusion. It wasn't luck, but superior, body-dominated golf. Tears on the 18th green showed how much weight had been lifted from him at that moment. The way down continues - and Lars now has the necessary confidence that he can climb any further step.
Success in this ambitious project is only possible as a team. Lars Heuer is supported by a first-class network of experts who work under professional conditions.
The renowned former professional golfer Florian Fritsch (head and swing coach) is responsible for the sporting management, while Heinz Peter Thül (former Germany's No. 2 behind Bernhard Langer) provides the expertise for the short game. The team is complemented by a putting expert, a home coach, a mental coach, a sports nutritionist and a medical contact point. "Project 0" will also be accompanied by a detailed video diary on YouTube.
