The LIV Golf League starts a new era in 2026. In order to promote recognition by the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and sharpen sporting competition, the league led by CEO Greg Norman has made radical changes. The most distinctive change in the 2026 LIV Golf calendar: All tournaments will now be held over 72 holes over four days — the eponymous 54-hole format is therefore a thing of the past.

The most important new features of the 2026 LIV golf season
If you're following the 2026 LIV Golf League, you'll notice three major changes:
- 72 holes format: Tournaments now usually start on Thursdays. The league thus meets a core requirement for obtaining world ranking points.
- World ranking points at last: Starting this season, the top 10 players in every event will receive official OWGR points. A decisive step towards qualifying for Majors.
- New points system: In the individual ranking, all 57 players now receive points (instead of just the top 24 so far). The entire ranking from 1st to 13th place is also honored in the team standings.
