After a week of headlines away from the Fairway, the sport provided the best answer on Sunday as Jon Rahm secured the individual title at LIV Golf Mexico City 2026 in an impressive display of power. With a record lead and a historic Spanish triple win on the podium, Rahm cemented his status as the dominant force in the league.

While the golf world was still speculating about the long-term strategy of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund during the week, Jon Rahm was concentrating on the essentials at the Club de Golf Chapultepec. The captain of Legion XIII started the final round with an aggressiveness that barely gave his pursuers a chance to breathe.
A spectacular four-hole stretch, crowned by a 390-yard drive on the third hole that came to rest just centimeters from the hole, paved the way. The resulting tap-in Eagle was the starting signal for a bogey-free round of 64. With an overall score of 21 under Par, Rahm distanced second-placed David Puig by a whopping six strokes - the clearest victory of his career to date at LIV Golf.
The fact that Rahm played so freely just one week after his disappointing performance at the Masters (T38) is thanks to a technical finesse. As the Spaniard revealed after the tournament, a heated conversation with his caddie Adam Hayes in Augusta led to a "click moment".
"If someone had told me last Thursday that I would win here with a six-shot lead, I wouldn't have believed it," Rahm admitted candidly. The correction to his swing paid off in full in the thin mountain air of Mexico City. This victory not only catapults Rahm back into the top 20 of the world rankings, but also makes him the most successful professional in the young history of LIV Golf with a total of 16 titles (individual and team).
The event in Mexico also marked a milestone for Spanish golf. Behind Rahm, David Puig and the young talent Josele Ballester secured second and third place. It was the first time that a single nation occupied the entire podium at a LIV Golf event.
There is a lot at stake for Puig in particular: his strong finish puts him within touching distance in the world rankings and in the battle for eligibility for the U.S. Open. Spain's dominance was also evident in the team rankings, although Rahm's Legion XIII team took the title comfortably ahead of Fireballs GC.

The conditions at the Club de Golf Chapultepec also caused some statistical outliers. The combination of altitude and hard Fairways led to 21 drives over the 400-yard mark. The record of the week was set by Elvis Smylie, who catapulted his ball an incredible 435.5 yards.
The final day was only overshadowed by the premature retirement of Bryson DeChambeau. The US-American, who had started as the favorite after two consecutive victories, had to withdraw before the final round due to a wrist injury.
After the success in Mexico City, the LIV Golf team will now take a short break before continuing in Virginia from May 7-10. For players like David Puig, this is the last chance to qualify directly for the next major via the world rankings. Jon Rahm, on the other hand, arrives knowing that his swing has reached absolute world class again in time for the Major season.
