Located in northern Saarland, the Wendelinus Golfpark St. Wendel offers golfers a challenging and varied game. Nestled in a landscape that ranges from gently to steeply undulating, the course extends over three 9-hole loops - A, B and C - which can be played individually or in combination. The terrain is surprising: what appears idyllic at first glance quickly turns out to be a sporting challenge. Elevation meters, blind shots and strategic layouts demand not only strength but also brains.
The A-course, the shortest and flattest of the three courses at up to 2,995 meters, is ideal for those who want to get off to a relaxed start. A pond awaits right at hole 1, the green is elevated - a first taste of the varied topography. Particularly impressive: hole 5, a 116-metre-long Par-3 over water, which can quickly fray your nerves in a headwind. The highlight of the round is the final hole - a par-5 up to 518 meters long with a dogleg, sloping Fairway and a green protected by water that borders directly on the club terrace. Those looking for more elevation gain will find what they are looking for on the B course. At 3,015 meters, it is only slightly longer than the A course, but it is much more hilly. Even hole 2, a 509-metre Par-5, requires a tactical game through a hollow and down to the sloping green. The signature hole is hole 6: a Par-3 that is only 110 meters long but leads steeply downhill and looks as if it has been cut into the rock. Two to three clubs less are not uncommon here. The loop is rounded off by long par-5s, tricky doglegs and greens with two levels - par is not a matter of course here.
The C-course is even more challenging. At 3,250 meters, it is the longest part of the course - despite being the same par-36. The very first hole, a 181-meter-long par-3, goes over a hollow to an elevated green. The longest Par-5 on the entire course (539 meters) can also be found here, with a narrow fairway through woodland and dangerous bunkers. Hole 6, a 423-metre Par-4, requires not only length but also well thought-out tactics, as bushes and trees come dangerously close on the left. The signature hole, hole 7, is particularly memorable: a steep Par-4 that feels like a downhill ride from the tee, but then demands a lot from you in terms of technique and tactics. With doglegs, blind tees and sloping greens, the final holes also offer everything that makes up the character of a C-course.
The entire course belongs to the Golf Absolute Group (Weiland Golfanlagen). St. Wendel is a real flagship - not least because of its exceptional topography. But guest players are also very welcome. For those planning more than just a day of golf, "Angel's am Golfpark" offers comfortable accommodation with a spa area directly on the course. Golf packages including overnight stay and green fee make the short break perfect - also ideal for weekend trips or golf breaks over bridging days.
