With the opening of the Crownwood Club at the end of July 2025, Sweden has secured itself a new top spot on the world golf map. In Ängelholm, in the south of the country, an exceptional private golf club has been created that meets the highest international standards. It is owned by major winner Henrik Stenson, designer Christian Lundin and golf entrepreneur Arild Andre Karlsen. The 18-hole championship course "The Crown" combines state-of-the-art design with the natural character of the landscape - inspired by renowned courses such as Tara Iti, Pinehurst or the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island. The club is consistently designed for exclusivity: Memberships are by invitation only, guest players are limited to a maximum of four rounds per year and are only permitted when accompanied by a member. In addition, play is limited to 15,000 rounds per year in order to keep the course in perfect condition. In addition to the championship course, an 11-hole executive course called "Henrik's Playground" will open in spring 2026 - as an entry-level golf course, but also with a high-end design.
The Crown course is a technical and aesthetic masterpiece. The sandy surface not only enables outstanding playing conditions in all weathers, but also a design that is visually and playfully reminiscent of classic links courses - including "sandscapes" instead of traditional bunkers. Classic bunkers have been placed sparingly but strategically. Old trees, undulating Fairways and undulating greens complete the challenging layout, which can play completely differently depending on the wind direction. The well thought-out routing is particularly striking. Many holes run in a north-south direction, which often brings crosswinds into play.
The Par-72 course is playable from five tee boxes, with lengths between 4,425 and 6,850 meters. A highlight is the combination of tactical finesse, scenic beauty and challenging play. The first nine holes lead through densely wooded terrain, while the back nine feature water hazards, elevated tees and sophisticated doglegs - not least hole 12, a dogleg around a pond with an island tree, is one of the most spectacular holes. The absence of classic tee boxes in favor of tees seamlessly integrated into the Fairway enhances the natural flow of the course. The Crownwood Club is also setting new standards in terms of infrastructure: a spa, gym, co-working hub and 15 exclusive lodges are set to follow by the end of 2026 - for members and their guests only, of course.
Crownwood is positioning itself not only as Scandinavia's most exclusive golf club, but also as the European answer to icons such as Tara Iti. Anyone who gets the chance to play here not only steps onto an exceptional course, but also experiences golf in its purest, most modern form. A club that combines exclusivity, sustainability and playing culture at the highest level - and keeps the promise of setting a new benchmark in European golf.
