Stability with soul: The new low-torque putters from Scotty Cameron
OC technology minimizes clubface rotation for a straight Putt swing. Learn how Scotty Cameron delivers stability without compromise.
The renowned putt manufacturer Scotty Cameron is expanding its range with a significant technical innovation. With the introduction of the OC (Onset Center) low-torque putter, the company is responding to the growing desire of many golfers for minimized clubface rotation in the Putt swing. The two new models, the Phantom 11R OC and the Studio Style Fastback OC, combine the advantages of low torque with the brand's characteristic, responsive feel.
The core innovation: OC technology decoded
At the heart of the new models is the so-called Onset Center technology. This designation defines the precise position of the shaft in relation to the putter head, expanding the range of neck configurations available in the Cameron range:
Onset: the shaft is offset slightly behind the leading edge of the clubface.
Center: The shaft axis is aligned directly with the center of gravity (CG) of the putter head.
This design is Tour-validated and aims to minimize torque in the stroke. The result is a significant reduction in clubface rotation, which helps players to align the clubface more easily square to the target line at impact. At the same time, the OC placement keeps the clubface perpendicular to the swing path for as long as possible. The setup therefore ideally supports players who prefer a straight-back-and-through Putt.
In the low-torque Putter segment, increased stability often comes at the expense of feedback. Scotty Cameron has specifically addressed this dilemma and promises to maintain a high level of feedback and a soft feel with the OC models despite minimal rotation.
The following clubface-specific features in particular contribute to this:
Phantom 11R OC: This Mallet putter features Chain-Link Face Milling across the entire face (Full-Face Milled). This technology provides a softer feel at impact and supports a consistent ball roll. The shape is also characterized by softer, rounded edges ("R" for Rounded).
Studio Style Fastback OC: This mid-mallet uses a Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert, which also features Chain-Link Milling. The carbon steel insert provides the soft sound and feel favored by the Tour. The construction is a multi-material design (stainless steel/aluminum).
Focus on technical features
In addition to the OC geometry, the new putters are characterized by further technical adjustments that maximize stability and consistency:
Increased head weight: the OC models are 15 grams heavier than their standard counterparts. This additional weight increases inertia and provides players with a better connection to the putter head throughout the swing.
Special shaft and grip: The putters are equipped with a custom Black KBS x Scotty Cameron shaft. Its optimized flex characteristics are matched to the higher head weight to maintain feel. This is complemented by the Tapered Matador Mid-Size grip for a secure hold.
Customizable specifications: Although the OC design aims for a fixed alignment, adaptability is maintained. Loft and lie can be adjusted to a small extent (+/- 1-2 degrees) without significantly affecting the low-torque characteristics.
Visual Aid: A subtle 1 degree shaft tilt promotes a neutral hand position and ensures an unobstructed view of the topline and alignment line.

Target group analysis: Who are the OC Putters made for?
The OC Putters are not just a technical enhancement, but a targeted solution for specific putter profiles:
Players with a straight swing: the main target group are golfers who want to execute a Putt swing with minimal recovery and a straight to slightly curved path and control the rotation of the Putter head at impact.
Aesthetic converts: They are ideal for players coming from more traditional putter shapes looking for the stability of a low-torque design without sacrificing the classic aesthetics and responsive feel of a Scotty Cameron putter.
Sensitive putters: Players who require a higher level of feedback to precisely control speed and length. The combination of higher head weight and chain-link milling technologies ensures that the feel is not "dead".
Market launch and availability
The new Scotty Cameron OC putters will be available from All4Golf from Friday, November 14. The models will be available in 33, 34 and 35 inch lengths. The recommended retail price is around $549 / £499.
