Callaway is launching a new generation of wedges designed to take the short game to a new level. With the Opus SP Wedges, which were developed in close cooperation with Tour professionals, the golf equipment manufacturer is relying on innovative technology to give golfers more spin, control and precision around the green. At the heart of this new club family is the Spin Pocket construction that gives it its name.
The designation "SP" in the Opus SP Wedges stands for Spin Pocket Technology. This is a new, two-piece head construction that reinterprets the traditional Wedge design. By creating a cavity in the lower part of the club head, the weight saved at this point (between 16.8 and 23.6 grams depending on the loft) can be shifted to a higher position in the club head.
This upward weight shift has a direct influence on the Wedge's center of gravity. The raised center of gravity favors a flatter ball flight, which is ideal for keeping the ball under the wind. At the same time, spin is significantly increased as the club hits the ball at an optimum angle for maximum backspin. This is particularly crucial for shots from the middle or lower part of the clubface that might otherwise run off the green. With Spin Pocket technology, these balls can stop faster, giving players more control to address tight flag positions more aggressively.
In addition to the pioneering Spin Pocket, the face of the new Wedges has also been further developed. The Spin Gen 2.0 Face has grooves with a new angle of 17° and a closer distance between them. This adjustment provides a larger contact area between the ball and clubface and helps to stabilize spin from different lies, especially from the Rough, leading to a more consistent performance.
This is complemented by a deeper, laser-engraved cross pattern across the entire clubface. This pattern creates additional friction, which significantly increases spin even on lower speed shots - such as pitches or chips - and gives the ball maximum "bite" on the green.

Another key factor in the performance of the Opus SP Wedges is their Tour-validated design. The Shape 6 profile is the result of an extensive prototyping phase in which the shape was tested and refined on Tour to give players a clear and confidence-inspiring look on the ball. Progressive shaping on the Gap wedges means that the shape of the club head blends harmoniously with modern Iron sets to create a seamless transition from the longest Iron to the Wedge.
Of particular note is the return of the popular X Grind. This high bounce option (with more bounce) is designed for golfers who have a steeper launch angle or play on firm ground, but still appreciate the versatility of being able to open up the clubface around the green. The X Grind is the ideal balance of forgiveness and creative playability. In addition, the Wedges are available in four other grinds (T, S, C, W) to cover a variety of swing types and course conditions.

The new Callaway Opus SP Wedges are available now at All4Golf and cost 199 EUR with a steel shaft and 209 EUR with a graphite shaft. With the introduction of Spin Pocket technology, a revised clubface and a design based on Tour feedback, Callaway offers a technologically advanced wedge model that promises golfers more control and spin.
