Yuta Sugiura shot a 58, 12 under Par, in the third round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship. The Japanese player recorded 11 Birdies, one Eagle, and one Bogey at the Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma, posting 29 strokes on both the front and back nine. After rounds of 69 and 66, Sugiura had entered Saturday tied for 47th—with the 58, he jumped 39 spots to eighth place, four strokes behind then-leader Trent Phillips.

Sugiura teed off on the 10th hole and opened with two Birdies. Additional birdies on holes 14, 16, 17, and 18 gave him a 29 on the front nine. An Eagle on the par-5 opening hole of the back nine put him at 12 under for the round, before his only Bogey of the day came on the second hole. He responded with a Birdie on the third hole and four consecutive Birdies from holes five through eight; a Par on the par-3 closing hole sealed the 58.
“I just tried to stay in the moment and keep hitting good shots,” Sugiura said. He was visibly pleased to be included in this exclusive group: “To be mentioned in the same breath as players like Jaeger and Capan is a great honor. But I’m focused on finishing strong and hopefully earning my PGA Tour card.”

With this round, Sugiura became only the fourth player to shoot under 59 on the Korn Ferry Tour. It was the 19th sub-60 round in Tour history and already the third this season alone. Before him, only Stephan Jaeger (2016) and Frankie Capan III (2024) had shot a 58; Cristobal del Solar still holds the record with a 57 from 2024.
The low scoring was aided by preferred lies and light winds, which made the course relatively easy to attack. Sugiura wasn’t alone: William Sides shot a bogey-free 60 and narrowly missed a 59 when his putt on the 18th hole rolled past the edge. “I thought the whole time it was going in,” Sides said. Ross Steelman also shot a 60.

For Sugiura, the record-breaking round came at a critical time: He had entered the week ranked 21st in the points standings, one spot outside the top 20 who will secure a 2027 PGA Tour card following the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Championship. He had already won the AdventHealth Championship in August.
In the final round, however, Sugiura was unable to maintain his pace. With a 68, he fell back to a tie for 11th place (19 under Par). The title was claimed by Scotland’s Sandy Scott in a playoff against William Sides—both had finished at 24 under Par. For Scott, it was his second consecutive victory; he leads the points standings and has thus secured his PGA Tour membership for 2027.
