Motor City Golf Club has signed Jackson Koivun for his first TGL season. The 21-year-old brings with him a PGA Tour title and an undefeated Presidents Cup debut—and will join five-time major champion Brooks Koepka on the new Detroit team.
The roster for Detroit’s debut in the technology-driven indoor team golf league, the TGL, is taking shape: On October 5, 2026, Motor City Golf Club and the league announced Koivun’s signing for the 2027 season. He is the second player—after Koepka—to be publicly introduced by the team, which will make its debut in the third TGL season. This is according to the official announcement of his signing.
Koivun is excited both about playing alongside his new teammate and about the challenge of building a team for Detroit. “I’m looking forward to playing alongside Brooks, testing myself in a new environment, and helping to build a team that Detroit can passionately support,” he said in the announcement. He’s also already familiar with the arena concept firsthand: Koivun has visited the SoFi Center and describes the atmosphere as a new experience for him in golf.
On the golf course, Koivun has quickly made the transition from college golf to the big stage. He won his first PGA Tour title at the 3M Open in Minnesota in July 2026. It took him just three starts as a professional to achieve this.
His first appearance on the U.S. team followed at the Presidents Cup in Medinah. Koivun finished the competition with two wins and one tie, without losing a single match. In the final singles match against Si Woo Kim, he came back from behind to win by 2 up. In doing so, he contributed to the Americans’ 17–13 victory, having trailed the International Team by three points going into the final day.

However, team competitions were already part of Koivu’s career even before he turned pro. He won the NCAA Division I Team Championship in 2024 and 2026 with Auburn University. In addition, he represented the U.S. in the Walker Cup and the Arnold Palmer Cup, among other events. His individual achievements in college were also recognized on multiple occasions: He was the first player to win the Fred Haskins Award, the Ben Hogan Award, and the Jack Nicklaus Award twice each—three major honors for outstanding college golfers.
Motor City is thus adding a player who, despite his relatively short professional career, already has experience in international team competitions. At his side is Koepka, a five-time major champion. Michael Hamp, team governor of the Motor City Golf Club, highlighted Koivun’s competitive spirit, tenacity, and energy in the announcement. “With Jackson and Brooks, we have a great foundation for what we’re building,” Hamp said, according to the official statement.
With the addition of Motor City, the TGL expands to seven teams for the first time. The 2027 season begins as early as December 27, 2026. The venue remains the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Detroit is the city the new team represents. Read more here about the TGL’s third season, the schedule, and TV broadcasts.
It’s still unclear who will round out the roster alongside Koepka and Koivun. According to the team, additional players are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
