The TaylorMade Spider series has been a staple on greens around the world for years. With its latest addition, the Spider ZT Black, TaylorMade now aims to take things a step further. The abbreviation “ZT” stands for “Zero Torque”—a concept designed to minimize face rotation during the Putt and help golfers achieve greater consistency. We’ve analyzed what’s behind this technology and who the new series is designed for.

The name says it all for this new series. While many Putter models—such as the classic Spider line—still feature silver elements framing the face, TaylorMade takes a different approach with the Spider ZT Black. The entire clubhead is finished entirely in black. This deep black color scheme extends across the entire design; even the face features a uniform, clean black finish. As a visual hallmark, the back of the Putter features the classic Spider design in blue, giving the clubhead an unmistakable look. The high-quality PVD coating also ensures that, at address, you benefit from a clean, uniform look that minimizes distracting reflections on the green.
The core of the Spider ZT Black lies in its “low-torque” design. By drilling the KBS putter shaft directly toward the tip near the center of gravity, a more stable, “toe-up” face orientation is created. This reduces the need for you to keep the putter face square at impact through small wrist adjustments.
This stability is supported by a combination of high-density stainless steel and lightweight aluminum, which generates a high moment of inertia (MOI). Even if you don’t hit the ball perfectly in the center, the Putter remains significantly more forgiving. Intuitive alignment is provided by the “Milled True Path™ Alignment,” where milled lines the width of the ball help position the ball optimally toward the center of the face. A “Pure Roll” insert made of Surlyn and aluminum with 45-degree grooves is also designed to ensure fast, clean forward spin on your ball.

The new Spider ZT Black isn’t just a facelift—it’s a technological solution to the most common problem on the putting green: instability. While the standard model is likely to appeal to many players with its “toe-up” design, the counterbalance version offers a serious option for anyone seeking maximum control under pressure.
Note: Please note that the series is available in various lengths and models. Custom adjustments regarding length and grip can be made on an individual basis.
