American Scottie Scheffler secures the 2025 PGA Championship with a solid final round. After two victories at the US Masters, this is the 28-year-old's third major success. Scheffler receives 3.4 million dollars in prize money for his triumph at Quail Hollow Golf Club. He also extends his lead at the top of the world rankings and has now been at the top of the rankings for 140 weeks.
Although the final day of the PGA Championship did not quite live up to the high expectations of a thrilling battle for the title, Scheffler's dominance was once again outstanding. The stoic Texan didn't have to pull off any miracles this time, as the competition gradually took themselves out of the title race. After a rather bumpy front nine, Scheffler played his way back to Par and, despite a Bogey on the last hole, finished five shots ahead of Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley.
Scheffler's Tee Shot on hole 14 in the third round of the PGA Championship 2025 was a shot that will be particularly memorable. Using his TaylorMade Qi10 Driver, he nailed his Titleist Pro V1 golf balls to within a few centimetres of the flag and a short time later easily holed out for an Eagle on the Par-4. At just 270 meters in length, the easiest hole on the course was within reach for all players. On the final day, Scheffler was well over the distance of the short hole with an average drive length of around 290 meters.
A look at the statistics confirms that the eventual winner laid the foundations for his success, particularly in the third round of the second men's major of the season. With 13 out of 14 Fairways hit (only six on the final day) and only four greens missed (eight missed on the final day), he led both statistics. His long game off the Tee and with his TaylorMade P7TW Irons was second to none on Saturday. On Sunday, average scores in both areas were enough to beat the field.
Scheffler also put in a strong performance on the greens in the fourth round with his TaylorMade Spider Tour X. He gained more than one stroke on Sunday compared to the rest of the field with the Mallet model, which Rory McIlroy also uses. He made up for his unaccustomed weakness off the Tee to win his third Major title and prove once again that he is currently the most complete golfer on Tour. There are no general weaknesses in any area of his game. Should there ever be a problem in the long or short game, the Olympic champion from Paris simply makes up for it with another club.
In one (insignificant) area, however, Scheffler is behind many of his competitors: the family man is unlikely to become a style icon in this lifetime. The Nike-equipped athlete likes to wear functional clothing on the golf course and avoids overly bright colors. He prefers to let his score speak for itself.
