"When the road seems endless and suddenly nothing seems to work, that's when you shouldn't hesitate." In the sixth episode of Project 0, Lars Heuer takes stock, which is characterized by a new seriousness. The realization: you can't "own" golf - you can only climb it step by step.
After the first few months of the project, the first major hurdle has been overcome: The handicap has fallen from 20.4 to 13. But what reads like a rapid success often feels like a battle against a jungle of information for Lars. He has to realize that being able to hit a ball like a pro doesn't mean you can bring home a score like a pro. The real challenge lies in relentless consistency over 18 holes.
"Project 0" is the story of Lars Heuer, a 53-year-old former management consultant who made a radical decision in November 2024: he gave up his job to improve his golf handicap from 20.4 to the level of a scratch golfer (handicap 0) within a year.
This is no ordinary sports project: Lars is taking a financial risk and dedicating his life for 365 days to the dream of making the impossible possible. He trains up to 40 hours a week to achieve this. As he says himself: "I have decided to live my dream, with all the consequences." Experts estimate the chances of achieving this goal as minimal - but Lars is prepared to go the full, holistic way, which goes beyond pure physical training and includes the areas of mental training, nutrition and regeneration.
In this episode, Lars dispels a common amateur myth: Just because you hit a "pro shot" every now and then doesn't make you a pro. The trick is to repeat this success 71 times in a row. A huge "golf tool database" has been created in his head, filled with tips on attack angles, divots and swing planes. But on the course, this wealth of options often leads to a mental block. Lars is now looking for a balance between technical learning and a pure focus on the result.
His path to zero resembles a staircase. The first step to handicap 13 has been completed. But for the next steps - first into the single-digit range, then towards scratch - he needs skills that he doesn't yet have. It's no longer just about the swing, but about unconditional commitment with every tee shot and a short game that not only brings the ball "close", but "to the stick". Despite the dwindling time in the project, Lars remains convinced that every further level is achievable as long as he learns to accept the game as it is.
Success in this ambitious project is only possible as a team. Lars Heuer is supported by a first-class network of experts who work under professional conditions.
The renowned former professional golfer Florian Fritsch (head and swing coach) is responsible for the sporting management, while Heinz Peter Thül (former Germany's No. 2 behind Bernhard Langer) provides the expertise for the short game. The team is complemented by a putting expert, a home coach, a mental coach, a sports nutritionist and a medical contact point. "Project 0" will also be accompanied by a detailed video diary on YouTube.
