Perfection is not achieved when you can no longer add anything, but when you can no longer leave anything out. For Lars Heuer, this means one thing above all in episode 4: letting go of fear and finally taking responsibility for your own game.
The plan for May was clear: play tournaments. But the reality of the situation called for more intensive detailed work on the swing. Before the first target rounds, Lars and his coach Florian Fritsch had to correct fundamental instabilities. In a mixture of technical analysis and mental release, Lars prepares for the biggest challenge of his golf career to date.
"Project 0" is the story of Lars Heuer, a 53-year-old former management consultant who made a radical decision in November 2024: he gave up his job to improve his golf handicap from 20.4 to the level of a scratch golfer (handicap 0) within a year.
This is no ordinary sports project: Lars is taking a financial risk and dedicating his life for 365 days to the dream of making the impossible possible. He trains up to 40 hours a week to achieve this. As he says himself: "I have decided to live my dream, with all the consequences."
Experts estimate the chances of achieving this goal as minimal - but Lars is prepared to go the full, holistic way, which goes beyond pure physical training and includes the areas of mental training, nutrition and regeneration.
The technical analysis of this episode is unsparing: Florian Fritsch diagnoses extreme instability in the lower body. Lars' moment of impact is more reminiscent of a relaxed stance at a highway rest stop than an athletic golf swing. The result: an attack angle that was too shallow and the dreaded "spooning" of the ball. In order to survive under professional conditions, Lars has to learn to move the club down aggressively and hit real divots - an internal hurdle for someone who prefers to use power elegantly rather than "earthily".
An absolute highlight of the episode is his participation in the Pro-Am of the Austrian Alpine Open. At the side of DP World Tour pros such as Richard Sterne and Daniel Hiller, Lars not only receives valuable tips on weight shifting, but also gains one thing above all: massive self-confidence. The realization that even world-class players interpret every swing individually encourages Lars to find his own powerful style. In a short game with Heinz Peter Thül, he also takes the next big step: he learns to make decisions himself instead of relying on the coach's "aura". The fear is gone - the joy of the first round of 79 grows.
Success in this ambitious project is only possible as a team. Lars Heuer is supported by a first-class network of experts who work under professional conditions.
The renowned former professional golfer Florian Fritsch (head and swing coach) is responsible for the sporting management, while Heinz Peter Thül (former Germany's No. 2 behind Bernhard Langer) provides the expertise for the short game. The team is complemented by a putting expert, a home coach, a mental coach, a sports nutritionist and a medical contact point. "Project 0" will also be accompanied by a detailed video diary on YouTube.
