Matt Fitzpatrick prevailed over world number one Scottie Scheffler in a nerve-wracking final at the RBC Heritage. Despite hostile chants and a late slip-up, the Englishman showed exceptional nerves of steel on the first extra hole of the PGA Tour and secured the legendary "Tartan Jacket" for the second time.
Here you can find the final result of the RBC Heritage 2026.
The final of this year's RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour will go down as one of the most exciting in Hilton Head Island history. Matt Fitzpatrick, who already triumphed at the site of the famous red and white striped lighthouse in 2023, fought a duel of giants with Scottie Scheffler. For a long time, it looked like a commanding victory before a single approach shot on the 18th hole shook up the result.

After Fitzpatrick conceded the tie with a Bogey on the final hole of the regular round, both players returned to the 18th tee for the sudden-death playoff. In the midst of a crowd that loudly favored the American Scheffler, Fitzpatrick conjured up a shot that he himself described as "out of this world".
From 204 yards (approx. 186 meters), he fired a 4 Iron straight at the flag against the gusty wind. While Scheffler missed the green, the 31-year-old Englishman converted the resulting 4-meter Putt for Birdie and victory. It was a moment of pure determination that earned Fitzpatrick his fourth title on the PGA Tour.
His best when he needed it most!

The atmosphere in the stands was particularly remarkable. The galleries in South Carolina were unusually partisan and tried to throw Fitzpatrick off his stride with loud chants of "U-S-A". The man from Yorkshire in England responded to the provocations with sporting elegance: after the decisive Putter, he put his finger to his ear - a gesture that instantly silenced the critics. Fitzpatrick later emphasized that the atmosphere had rather inspired him, even though the spectators were clearly on "Team Scheffler".
The success on the PGA Tour was also a triumph of tactics. His caddie, Daniel Parratt, proved to have a golden touch when he made Fitzpatrick laugh shortly before the play-off with an anecdote about Rory McIlroy, thus relieving the tension. In addition, the decision to put the Iron 4 back in the bag at short notice due to the shifting wind was the decisive factor for the winning shot in the play-off.
With this victory, Matt Fitzpatrick climbs to a new career high and now occupies 3rd place in the official world rankings. It is his second success in just a few weeks, following his recent victory at the Valspar Championship.
While Scottie Scheffler narrowly missed out on victory for the second time in a row, Fitzpatrick cemented his reputation as one of the mentally strongest players on the current PGA Tour season. Looking ahead to the PGA Championship in three weeks' time, the Englishman is now likely to be at the top of the list of favorites.
