The transfer market in professional golf is open: Victor Perez is the first new signing for LIV Golf in the coming season. The 33-year-old Frenchman is moving from the PGA Tour to the controversial league with immediate effect and will play for Cleeks GC from 2026 - the team captained by Germany's two-time major winner Martin Kaymer.
Victor Perez, who represented France at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, has recently been under massive pressure on the PGA Tour. He was outside the safe ranks in the FedEx Cup (108th place) and would have had to achieve a top result at the RSM Classic at the weekend to secure his full eligibility for 2026. Instead, he opted for a move to Saudi Arabia, withdrew from the tournament on Tuesday and signed a contract with LIV Golf.
The move brings Perez into a prominent but previously less successful team: he completes the Cleeks GC line-up, which includes Kaymer as well as the Pole Adrian Meronk and the experienced Englishman Richard Bland. Perez thus takes the place left vacant by the relegation of Danish talent Frederik Kjettrup. Kjettrup had failed to finish in the top 48 of the league standings in his debut season.
Perez himself was euphoric about the new beginning in a statement: "For me, the Cleeks are the next big chapter in golf. The club is continually committed to pushing boundaries and bringing fresh energy to the sport." His debut in the new team is scheduled for February 2026 at the inaugural tournament in Riyadh.
