In June 2025, "Rock Golf", a 9-hole golf course that aims to set new standards in the Par 3 course segment, opened around 40 minutes' drive west of Helsinki. In the middle of a rocky landscape near Siuntio, the course has nine holes ranging in length from 81 to 224 meters. The ambitious goal: to become the best Par 3 course in the world. The course was designed by the renowned designer Lassi Pekka Tilander, whose signature has already led to several of Europe's top 100 courses. The design makes use of the natural topography with rocks, watercourses and typical Finnish vegetation and integrates these harmoniously into the playing experience. Spacious and undulating greens, variable tees - marked with the letters R, O, C and K - and tactically placed bunkers challenge golfers of all abilities. Easy pars are not guaranteed here - strategic play is required. But Rock Golf offers far more than just a sporting challenge. The concept deliberately focuses on a comprehensive experience. High-quality clubs from the Takomo and Otso brands are available free of charge. The modern clubhouse is not only a hub for golfers, but also an event location for corporate events and private celebrations.
The holes themselves show great attention to detail. On hole 2, you have to play from a rock formation over water to the green opposite. Hole 3 also requires a safe teeshot carry over water, while water borders the side of the hole on hole 5. The magnificent peninsula green on hole 7 is also a pleasure to play and to look at - especially as the greens on holes 6 and 7 feel like they run through a canyon with rocks on the right and then water. Each fairway here has its own character. The feel also changes depending on the time of day and the incidence of light, which increases the appeal for repeat rounds. With a total length of between 934 and 1,457 meters, the course is also ideal for families or players with limited time. A round can be completed in around 90 minutes - a clear advantage over conventional 18-hole courses. Rock Golf therefore appeals specifically to golfers for whom time is a limiting factor - such as young professionals or parents. In addition, the very modern clubhouse with saunas in the changing rooms and high-quality à la carte gastronomy is an attraction. In short, this course clearly focuses on the experience.
The next stage of development is already being planned: the Rock Resort will be built. Unlike traditional golf resorts, the properties will not be integrated into the course, but will frame it like a stadium - an architecturally innovative approach. Rock Golf proves that modern golf courses can break new ground both aesthetically and functionally - and that even courses with nine holes and Par 27 can combine golfing enjoyment with a challenge. With excellent design, consistent customer orientation and a clear focus on quality of experience, the Finnish course has secured itself the best chances of becoming a role model for a new generation of Par 3 courses.
