The crowning finale of the 2026 major season takes the world's elite back to the roots of golf. From July 30 to August 2, 2026, the AIG Women's Open will take place at the legendary Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in England. In its 50th edition, the "British Open" for women promises not only top sporting performances at world-class links level, but also a celebratory tribute to the tournament's history.
Links golf means wind, bunkers and unpredictable weather. Here, the AIG Women's Open Leaderboard can turn completely around in a matter of minutes. More than in many other golf tournaments, the players on the coasts of Great Britain are subject to the elements. It's not just playing class that is required here, but also mental strength. If you want to top the leaderboard at the AIG Women's Open, you not only have to hit precise shots, but also cope with the fact that the natural links courses can put some perfect shots in a bad position.

The AIG Women's Open has undergone an impressive development in recent years. The prize money has been massively increased to underline the importance of this world event. With prize money of 9.75 million dollars, the AIG Women's Open is one of the most lucrative tournaments in women's golf. While the only German winner of the tournament to date, Sophia Popov, scooped 675,000 dollars in 2020, Miyu Yamashita (Japan) was already enjoying 1.46 million dollars in 2025, more than twice as much.

Last year, Japan's Miyu Yamashita was crowned champion at Royal Porthcawl. As one of seven rookies to triumph on the LPGA Tour in 2025, she showed nerves of steel on the final Sunday. With a round of 70 (-2), she kept local hero Charley Hull at bay and secured her first Major title and a record prize money of over 1.4 million US dollars.

Royal Lytham & St Annes is famous for its more than 200 bunkers. It is a course that rewards strategic thinking far ahead of brute force. Fans fondly remember Georgia Hall's heartwarming victory in 2018 - the last home win by an Englishwoman to date. If you want to win on this course in 2026, you have to master the game against the wind perfectly. The course is a good 6,000 meters long and plays as a Par 71. The Women's Open will be held in Lancashire County for the sixth time.
In addition to the defending champion Yamashita and the world number two Nelly Korda, the focus will be on the European stars. Players such as Linn Grant and local hero Charley Hull are eager to keep the trophy on European soil again. Those who were unable to secure a direct starting place have the chance to fight for one of the coveted places in the field via the AIG Women's Open Qualifying. The tournament is one of the few genuine "open championships".
Unlike the women's majors played in the USA, the AIG Women's Open 2026 will only have a one-hour time difference on the continent, which makes it particularly attractive for TV viewers. The rights holders of the LPGA Tour in Europe are usually also the TV stations that broadcast the AIG Women's Open. There are also live streams provided by the LPGA Tour.
