Boston Common Golf has signed Open Champion Shane Lowry from The Bay Golf Club. The league announced the trade on Monday, October 19, 2026. This marks a first for the indoor team league, as there has never been a player trade between two clubs in its history. Lowry will compete for Boston in his third season, alongside his longtime friend Rory McIlroy.
The move comes amid a period of major changes. Teams are expanding from four to five players, and a seventh team—Motor City Golf Club—is joining the league. The trade highlights how the clubs are shaping their rosters for the upcoming season.
In exchange, The Bay Golf Club receives Boston Common Golf’s fourth pick in the 2027 roster process, an additional pick over the next three offseasons, and commercial considerations. This gives The Bay more flexibility in building its roster, while Boston fills a gap on its own team.
Boston finished in last place during the first TGL season. In the 2026 regular season, the club climbed to first place but then lost to Jupiter Links in the semifinals. Last season’s roster included McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott, and Hideki Matsuyama.

Mark Lev, President of Boston Common Golf, said in the club’s announcement: “We are thrilled to welcome Shane to Boston Common Golf and to make the first trade in TGL history with a player of his caliber.”
Lowry also commented in the club’s press release: “I’m very excited to join Boston Common Golf. Having Rory play alongside me and being part of this group makes it especially exciting, and I look forward to helping the team bring a title to Boston.”
McIlroy, co-founder of the TGL and a founding member of Boston Common Golf, said: “Shane is a great friend, and I love having him by my side in team competitions.” Together, the two won the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Teammate Keegan Bradley also praised the new addition. According to a club statement, he said: “Shane is a fierce competitor with a tremendous all-around game, and I’m excited to have him on our side.”
In the future, each team will field five players instead of four, though three will continue to compete in each match. This results in more combinations that can be strategically deployed depending on the opponent and the team’s form. The final rosters will be announced on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
The Motor City Golf Club is also generating buzz. The new team from Detroit is making its debut and has signed five-time major champion Brooks Koepka as its most prominent player. Jackson Koivun, the 2026 PGA Tour champion, is another young talent joining the team.
