TaylorMade is ringing in the 2026 golf year with a technological premiere. Thanks to a completely new "Microcoating" technology, the manufacturer promises the most consistent Tour balls to date for all players. While the TP5, as the softest 5-layer ball, focuses on maximum control, the new TP5x breaks speed records. We have analyzed the technical specifications and innovations.
It's the only piece of equipment used in every single shot: the golf ball. But while club heads are milled down to the micrometer, painting golf balls has long been considered a necessary evil that could negatively affect aerodynamics. With the introduction of the new TP5 and TP5x models for 2026, TaylorMade wants to have solved this problem for all golfers.
Find out everything you need to know about the size, weight and diameter of golf balls here.
The core innovation of the new series is the so-called microcoating technology. Previously, the paint tended to collect unevenly in the dimples (the small indentations on the surface of the golf balls) - an effect that experts refer to as "paint pooling".
Thanks to the new, highly precise process, the paint is applied in such a thin and controlled manner that the aerodynamic properties of the dimples remain exactly as they were developed in the laboratory. The result: a significantly more consistent ball flight and less dispersion (tighter dispersion), as every ball has exactly the same aerodynamic signature - a decisive advantage for precise players.

The new TP5 remains the flagship for those who prioritize soft feel. TaylorMade has installed the largest core in the company's history. This ensures less contact time at impact, which in turn optimizes energy transfer at high swing speeds.
For golfers looking for every extra yard, the TP5x has been completely re-engineered. It is officially the fastest 5-ply ball in the TaylorMade range.
In addition to the technical values under the hood, TaylorMade continues to set standards in visual technology to support performance on the green:
With the 2026 series, TaylorMade shows that innovation often lies in the details of production. Microcoating technology addresses a previously "invisible" problem and offers a new level of predictability. The new models will be available for pre-order from February 2, 2026 and from February 12 at All4Golf. Prices are around 65 euros for the standard models and 68 euros for the variants with visual technology (Stripe/pix).
