For a long time, golfers had to make a choice: Either they chose an Iron that offered maximum forgiveness but often seemed clunky - or they went for sporty models that were harder to play. The manufacturer wants to close this gap with the new TaylorMade Qi Max Irons. The new series promises the aesthetics of the professional models combined with technologies that actively help to combat the dreaded Slice.
The main problem with many Irons in the so-called game improvement category (clubs designed to make the game easier) is the unwanted right-hand spin of the ball. TaylorMade has analyzed that the club faces of conventional irons give way more at the toe than at the heel under the enormous force applied at impact. In technical terms, this yielding of the clubface is called "flexing". If the toe of the club flexes more than the rest, the clubface opens up slightly, which leads to a Fade or Slice for right-handed players - the ball turns to the right and loses distance.
The TaylorMade Qi Max Irons address this with a synchronized face design. The engineers have adapted the structure so that the entire face flexes evenly. The result is a more stable face position at impact, which keeps the ball significantly straighter on the target line.
Another technological highlight is the FLTD CG system (Flighted Center of Gravity). This system progressively changes the club's center of gravity throughout the entire set:
Much of what golfers describe as the "feel" at impact is actually acoustic in nature. The Sound Stabilization Bar was developed to eliminate the hollow sound of classic distance irons. This metal bar connects the upper edge (topline) of the club with the back of the housing.
Together with the ECHO Damping System - a special damping material inside the head - vibrations are absorbed where they occur. The result is a rich, solid impact sound that is strongly reminiscent of the forged P series, which is normally reserved for professionals.
TaylorMade offers the series in two variants to cover different needs:
The new TaylorMade Qi Max Irons will be available from retailers from January 29, 2026. The price per Iron is around 183 euros for the steel shaft version and around 200 euros for the graphite version. With their new, monochrome metal look, these irons also set visual standards for the new golf year.
