The midlayer goes between the base layer and the outer layer. It keeps you warm when it’s cool and can be quickly put on or taken off when the temperature changes on the course. In the fall, it becomes the most important layer when the wind picks up or a shower rolls in and your rain jacket is still in your bag. Whether it’s a hoodie, a knit sweater, or a vest: what matters most is how much warmth you need and how much freedom of movement you require when swinging.
Three questions can help you choose. How much warmth should the layer provide? How well does it protect against wind and light rain? And how well does it layer under a jacket? The following five models answer these questions in different ways.
Galvin Green Daphne Hoodie
Thehoodie is made of 60% recycled polyester, with 33% polyester and 7% spandex. The soft INSULA fabric is designed to be both breathable and warm. According to the manufacturer, the Warming Effect #2 provides more warmth than a standard midlayer. The built-in hood provides additional protection from wind and chill. The material is bluesign approved and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified. This hoodie is ideal if you prefer a soft, stretchy layer on cold days.

Macade Knit Sweater
Thisknit sweater is made of 95% BCI cotton and 5% cashmere. According to the description, this blend gives it a soft feel and natural thermal insulation without adding bulk. Its clean, understated look and relaxed fit make it a versatile companion on the course, in the clubhouse, and during leisure time. It does not offer technical weather protection, so it’s better suited for mildly cool days than for wind and rain.
Abacus Layer Liffin Knitted
Thisfull-zip sweater combines 30% merino wool, 25% nylon, and 45% acrylic. A stretch lining is designed to protect against the wind, and the WindVent technology is described as breathable and water-repellent. The full-length zipper allows you to wear the sweater open or to regulate body heat as needed. Ribbed cuffs and hem keep out the cold wind. The sweater can also be folded up small and fits into a golf bag.

Under Armour Pro Insulated Vest
Theinsulated vest is made of 100% polyester and features 100 grams of insulation strategically placed on the upper body. The ColdGear® Infrared lining is designed to retain body heat, while UA Storm technology repels rain, according to the manufacturer. The 4-way stretch allows for full range of motion. Since the arms remain free, the vest is ideal for female golfers who need warmth in the upper body without being restricted during their swing.

It’s best to try on the midlayer together with your rain jacket or windbreaker. Only then will you see if your shoulders and arms have enough room to move when you swing.
