The world of sport recently witnessed an unequal duel: golf major winner Bryson DeChambeau ventured onto the basketball court to take on NBA superstar and two-time MVP Stephen Curry. The short video of the clash quickly went viral, proving that every athlete is better off sticking to their specialty.
Watch the video that sent the internet community into an uproar here:
The "pick-up game" was, as the footage clearly shows, a clear lesson for the golfer. Curry, a future member of the Hall of Fame, dominated the action at will and demonstrated why Bryson should stick to golf.
Although DeChambeau, in his "professional life" on the LIV Tour, deliberately engaged in a bit of "showmanship for clicks" with this action to generate attention, he earned much derision for his lack of basketball skills. His defensive stance in particular was criticized: He stood on his toes, but leaned far too far forward to maintain the necessary balance. This made it easy for Curry to dismantle his opponent by every trick in the book. But many of Curry's opponents in the NBA are no different...
What makes the duel particularly interesting for golf fans, however, is Stephen Curry's own close connection to golf. In contrast to DeChambeau's foray into the NBA world, Curry is not only a basketball titan, but is also considered a really respectable golfer. He regularly takes part in Pro-Am tournaments and his skills with the Driver and Putter are highly regarded in the golf community. Curry has also already scored a spectacular hole in one (see video below)
The duel therefore raises the question of who would have the upper hand in a direct exchange of blows on the golf course. In view of the clear defeat on the court, observers are already speculating that a rematch on the green could follow in the coming weeks. It is expected that DeChambeau and Curry will soon release a golf video - possibly a "Break 50" format - to give the golfer the chance to make amends in his own sport.
