The market for Launcher monitors has often been divided in two: On the one hand, there are expensive high-end systems for professionals, and on the other, very simple devices with often limited usefulness. With the new Shot Scope LM1, the Scottish company has now set out to close this gap. For a recommended retail price of €239.99, the device promises precise data without the usual subscription fees. But what can this little powerhouse really do?
The LM1 is based on modern Doppler radar technology (K-band 24 GHz), which tracks the flight of the ball in real time. The device focuses on five core metrics that are crucial for golfers to better understand their game: Club head speed, ball speed, smash factor and carry and total distance.
Initial field tests from the USA indicate that the distance values when using range balls are within a few meters of expensive industry standards; with premium balls, the figures are even closer. Important to know: The LM1 does not measure spin or provide graphical trajectory simulation. It is designed purely as an analysis tool to honestly assess your own lengths.
A big plus point for all players is the uncomplicated handling. The device is simply placed about 1.5 meters (5 ft) directly behind the ball. Thanks to the bright 3.5-inch color display, the values can be read immediately after the shot without having to look at a smartphone.
With a weight of just 300g and compact dimensions, the LM1 fits in any pocket. It is also certified IPX3 rainproof, making it the ideal companion for dedicated golfers who also train in changeable weather. The battery life of approx. 5 hours is easily enough for extensive training sessions.
What sets the LM1 apart from other devices in this price range is its integration into the Shot Scope ecosystem. The data can be synchronized via Bluetooth with the free Shot Scope app to create a lifelong history of training sessions. What is particularly exciting is that the training data can be linked to on-course data, which helps players to optimize their club selection on the course.
The LM1 also has a special speed training mode. This can be used with normal clubs or special training sticks - even without making contact with the ball. This allows golfers to work specifically on their swing speed.
The Shot Scope LM1 is no substitute for a comprehensive simulator system that measures spin or the exact angle of impact. However, it is the ideal tool for:
With the LM1, Shot Scope makes professional feedback accessible to a wide range of golfers and proves that good data doesn't always have to cost a fortune.
