Team Europe wins the 2025 Ryder Cup in New York by 15-13 with a single victory and three shared matches on Sunday, when twelve singles matches were played. In addition, Viktor Hovland was unable to compete due to injury and both teams were secured half a point thanks to the so-called turnover rule .
Team USA sent its strongest players onto the course at the start of the final session of this Ryder Cup. The Americans started a mad dash to catch up and even put themselves in a position to actually reclaim the Ryder Cup, despite going into the final day with a historic 11.5 to 4.5 deficit. First, Cameron Young and Justin Thomas won their matches against Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood with one up. It was only with hole wins on the last hole that both secured the full point for Team USA. In Matt Fitzpatrick's third match against Bryson DeChambeau, a five-up lead after seven holes was also not enough for a full point. The American long hitter came back and equalized on 17. At least half a point helped to calm the Europeans' nerves.
But Rory McIrloy also lost the match of the giants against Scotty Scheffler. And so the leaderboard continued to turn red. It was Sweden's Ludwig Aberg who put the first and only full point for Team Europe on the scoreboard on Sunday. The 25-year-old beat Patrick Cantley with two and one. Finally, it was Shane Lowry in the eighth match against Russell Henley who collected the half point needed to defend the Ryder Cup. The Northern Irishman won the 18th hole against his opponent and thus shared the match for the decisive 14th point for Europe.

Europe's captain Luke Donald was emotional after a second successive Ryder Cup win and nail-biter on the Bethpage Black Course, saying: "It's been the most stressful 12 hours of my life," said Donald. "Credit to the Americans, Keegan and his captains. I knew it was going to be tough. I didn't think they would be so strong on Sunday, they fought so hard and I have a lot of respect for them."
"But of course this means a lot to me and the team. We came here knowing that the task would be very difficult. I couldn't be more proud of these guys and what they've been through, how they've come together, how they're playing for history, how they're playing for the people who came before them, and now they'll be talked about for generations to come as someone who goes down in history. I couldn't be prouder."

Even if it was by no means the victory march expected on Sunday, Donald did it and is the second European captain to win two in a row, alongside Tony Jacklin (1985, 1987). He was hailed as the best ever by losing US captain Keegan Bradley.
"I played against an unbelievable team, and in my opinion Luke Donald is the best European Ryder Cup captain ever," Bradley said after his team's defeat in New York. "I mean, he's won home and away, and he won a Ryder Cup in New York at Bethpage. I think he's an incredible leader. He's very calm, and I think he's come out of his shell a little bit in these Ryder Cup years."
"I think he's made this European team a really unstoppable force, especially in the first two days, and in my eyes he's the best European Ryder Cup captain ever. I was really looking forward to playing him but I knew it was going to be tough to beat him. He's put his team in the best position to win and to do it at these two venues is a remarkable achievement."
