"If you sleep, you don't have to dream - and if you dream, you don't have to sleep." Shortly before the end of his one-year experiment "Project 0", Lars Heuer has achieved one of his most important milestones: he is officially a single handicapper.
During an extremely intensive week of golf, which took Lars through Andalusia and finally to Mallorca, the pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place. What began in Germany with frustration and dwindling faith in success ended in the Mediterranean late summer with a series of dream rounds. With a new sense of momentum and impressive mental stability, Lars proved that he can not only compete on difficult international championship courses, but also shine.
"Project 0" is the story of Lars Heuer, a 53-year-old former management consultant who made a radical decision in November 2024: he gave up his job to improve his golf handicap from 20.4 to the level of a scratch golfer (handicap 0) within a year.
This is no ordinary sports project: Lars is taking a financial risk and dedicating his life for 365 days to the dream of making the impossible possible. He trains up to 40 hours a week to achieve this. As he says himself: "I have decided to live my dream, with all the consequences." Experts estimate the chances of achieving this goal as minimal - but Lars is prepared to go the full, holistic way, which goes beyond pure physical training and includes the areas of mental training, nutrition and regeneration.
The results of the trip are impressive: seven different places in seven days. Despite difficult weather conditions and a spontaneous escape from Andalusia to Mallorca, Lars achieved an unexpected level of consistency. "I've never played golf so consistently in that direction," he sums up. The keys to success were passive hands, a compact swing from the shoulders and the ability to master ultra-fast greens. On the challenging Son Muntaner course in particular, Lars played the best golf of his career with a 12 over Par (score differential of around $9,x$).
The result in black and white: a handicap of 9.4, putting Lars Heuer in the top 4% of all golfers worldwide. He is particularly proud of his four birdies in a single round and the fact that his drives are now consistently between 220 and 240 meters - a length that suddenly turns Par 5 holes into real Birdie opportunities. Even if the "zero" is still some way off, Lars takes away a deep inner peace from this week: He has proven that he has reached a level under professional conditions that nobody would have believed him capable of a year ago.
Success in this ambitious project is only possible as a team. Lars Heuer is supported by a first-class network of experts who work under professional conditions.
The renowned former professional golfer Florian Fritsch (head and swing coach) is responsible for the sporting management, while Heinz Peter Thül (former Germany's No. 2 behind Bernhard Langer) provides the expertise for the short game. The team is complemented by a putting expert, a home coach, a mental coach, a sports nutritionist and a medical contact point. "Project 0" will also be accompanied by a detailed video diary on YouTube.
