"Don't call yourself poor because your dreams haven't come true. You are only poor if you never dreamed in the first place." Lars Heuer closes the "Project 0" chapter with this guiding principle. After twelve months full of sweat, tears and thousands of golf shots, one thing is clear: the zero is not on paper, but it has served its purpose.
The finale of Project 0 is characterized by a deep, inner peace. Lars Heuer has made peace with the fact that becoming a scratch golfer (0 handicap) in a single year is an almost superhuman task. But while the weather gods in Bad Pyrmont prevented him from playing the final target rounds, Lars came to a much more important realization: the journey itself was the goal. The project taught him that control does not come from holding on, but from letting go - a lesson that he will take with him far beyond the golf course and into his life.
"Project 0" is the story of Lars Heuer, a 53-year-old former management consultant who made a radical decision in November 2024: he gave up his job to improve his golf handicap from 20.4 to the level of a scratch golfer (handicap 0) within a year.
This is no ordinary sports project: Lars is taking a financial risk and dedicating his life for 365 days to the dream of making the impossible possible. He trains up to 40 hours a week to achieve this. As he says himself: "I have decided to live my dream, with all the consequences." Experts estimate the chances of achieving this goal as minimal - but Lars is prepared to go the full, holistic way, which goes beyond pure physical training and includes the areas of mental training, nutrition and regeneration.
Looking back, it is clear that Project 0 was a test of Lars Heuer's core values. Loyalty - to himself and to his promise to see the year through - was a particular focus. Despite the pressure from social media and moments of fear of public judgment, he did not run away. "Time is the most valuable thing we have," Lars sums up. The investment in this year, in the encounters with people like Florian Fritsch and Karl, and in self-awareness, cannot be outweighed by any money in the world.
Lars Heuer is not leaving the project as a failed dreamer, but as an enriched person. He has proven that at the age of 54, you can completely turn your life around and pursue a passion to the limit. His conclusion is as simple as it is powerful: he has no regrets. Golf was the instrument for learning acceptance and humility - and this instrument will continue to accompany him in the future.
Success in this ambitious project is only possible as a team. Lars Heuer is supported by a first-class network of experts who work under professional conditions.
The renowned former professional golfer Florian Fritsch (head and swing coach) is responsible for the sporting management, while Heinz Peter Thül (former Germany's No. 2 behind Bernhard Langer) provides the expertise for the short game. The team is complemented by a putting expert, a home coach, a mental coach, a sports nutritionist and a medical contact point. "Project 0" will also be accompanied by a detailed video diary on YouTube.
