Olli Schulz, well-known musician and entertainer, wants to take up golf. He announced this in an episode of his podcast "Fest und Flauschig", which he co-hosts with Jan Böhmermann. The 51-year-old revealed that he had been on a golf course in Berlin at the invitation of a band colleague. "My keyboarder plays golf from time to time," said Schulz, adding an anecdote about how, as a young man, he hit the ball quite well on a driving range during his first attempts at a swing.
The mindset was therefore positive when the singer-songwriter picked up a club again after many years. "I thought I'd go there and show them how it's done," he joked about his own arrogance. But he quickly realized that the "feeling I had 25 years ago" was a fallacy. "I barely managed a tee shot. I was shocked." He turned directly to the golfing listeners of his show: "I would like to have individual training so that I can get my license to play! I need a golf instructor." Professionals can get in touch with Olli Schulz on his Instagram channel.
Schulz defied possible criticism in advance. "Now many people will say, 'Golf is expensive'. Golf isn't that expensive anymore. I've done some research. It's no longer just a sport for the rich. They do completely different things now." In fact, golf has become much more accessible in Germany than it was decades ago. And the entry-level price has also fallen significantly. Meanwhile, Böhmermann takes a critical view of his colleague's plan, with whom he recently also commented on the Eurovision Song Contest: "In golf, there are rules that everyone has to abide by. And that's your big weakness," the TV star jokes. In general, however, he thinks it would be "great" if Schulz were to actually start his golf career and wants to be kept "closely" informed about his progress. Böhmermann doesn't seem to be completely averse to the idea either, also reporting on early attempts on a driving range. At least "theoretically" he thinks "it's mega cool". Perhaps both of them will soon be convinced by golf in practice.
