With The Links Valley, a truly unique piece has been created in Europe: the first consistently reversible golf course where the playing direction changes daily. What was historically only considered a rare reminiscence — for example on the legendary Old Course in St. Andrews, which is played in reverse once a year on the occasion of St. Andrew's Day — is a living concept here. The idea builds on the tradition that was once shaped by Old Tom Morris and translates it into a modern, sporty and strategically exciting format. The complex was designed by Dutch architect Frank Pont, who consistently designed a layout that functions independently in both directions of play.
The 9-hole course is played alternately as North Course and South Course. Depending on the direction, the total length varies between just under 2,300 and around 3,000 meters, each with four recommended tees. This creates a completely new gaming experience from the same area every day with different tactics, different driveland zones, new angles of attack on the greens — and thus completely different course management.
As a North Course, the round starts below the modern clubhouse with the only par 5; overall, the course is played as par 35. The routing is exceptional: The first five lanes run in a large outer circle before the last four holes are played on an inner loop. The long par-4 of the fourth track with a distinctive dogleg to the left is particularly demanding. Despite the unusual lines, the gaps between the lanes remain large enough to ensure a safe game even in the event of delayed shots.
The following day, the same course is completely transformed as a South Course. The round now starts with a par-5 of up to 462 meters long, which bends almost at right angles to the right in the last third. The routing then runs through the inner area of the system before switching back to the outer loop with the par-3 of the fifth track. The eighth track with significantly raised green at the sides and the monumental final hole are particularly impressive: a par 5 up to 588 meters long, whose green is directly below the club terrace — a finale that inspires spectators and players alike.
The fact that this concept is internationally accepted is proven by the inclusion of The Links Valley in the top 50 of the best 9-hole courses worldwide by renowned Golf Magazine. The target group is correspondingly broad: ambitious golfers appreciate the tactical challenge, beginners benefit from the compact length and the wide range of tee options. The experience is rounded off by excellent service, a high-quality pro shop and a brasserie, which invites you to linger away from the crowd with changing culinary theme evenings. The Links Valley impressively shows that innovation in golf does not always need more and longer fairways — sometimes a clever change of perspective is enough.
