Just imagine: You are standing on one of the most spectacular golf courses in the world, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Lofoten Islands, while the magical Northern Lights may be dancing above you. And not only that - you will learn from one of the best how to capture this breathtaking scenery with your camera. This trip is no ordinary golf vacation, but a unique experience that combines a passion for golf with the art of photography and the fascination of Arctic nature.
When Swedish photographer Jacob Sjöman traveled to the Lofoten Islands a few years ago, he had no idea that he would take one of the most famous golf course photos in the world today: the signature hole of the top 100 golf course Lofoten Links, the Par 3 on hole 2, with the northern lights in the background. Today every golfer knows this picture - and Sjöman belongs to the absolute world elite of golf course photographers. Frode Hov, CEO of Lofoten Links, sees September as one of the best times to visit his homeland - you can enjoy the golf course and have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights in the evening.
On this trip, we combine the golfing experience at Lofoten Links and the beautiful landscape of the Norwegian archipelago with a photography workshop. None other than Jacob Sjöman himself will give participants tips on golf course, nature and (if nature cooperates) aurora photography. This is why participants are expressly encouraged to bring their own photographic equipment - be it a smartphone, a drone or, of course, a camera. Sjöman gives the participants tips on how to take the right pictures during the rounds of golf at selected courses, in discussions on the sidelines of the trip and during the joint excursions.
Day 1 (21.09.2025): Arrival in Narvik
You will travel to Frankfurt Airport on your own.
You will fly directly from Frankfurt to Narvik in the morning with Discover Airlines. The transfer to the Lofoten Links golf course takes place in a modern, air-conditioned coach. Here you move into your rooms for four nights - all participants stay in the lodges of Lofoten Links, which also offer excellent opportunities for observing the Northern Lights with their glazed living areas. After a welcome drink, you will have dinner together. Here you will meet Jacob Sjöman, who is leading the photography workshop. He will teach you the basics of golf course and aurora photography.
Day 2 (22.09.2025) First round of golf - Kvalvika Strand - Reine
After breakfast, start your first round of golf. During the round, Jacob Sjöman will give you valuable tips on how best to set the scene on a golf course. After an individual lunch break, drive to Kvalvika Strand and visit the beautiful fishing village of Reine. Dinner together near the golf club. If auroras are expected on this day, there will be a photo workshop with Jacob Sjöman at Lofoten Links after dark.
Day 3 (23.09.2025): Henningsvaer - Troll Fjord
After breakfast, you will first travel to Henningsvaer for a city tour and then set off from Svolvaer on a mini-cruise in the Troll Fjord. With a bit of luck, you may spot sea eagles and whales. Dinner together after the return trip. The same applies today: if auroras are expected, we will hold a corresponding workshop in the evening.
Day 4 (24.09.2025): Second round of golf and Stokmarknes
After breakfast, start for the second round of golf and accompanying photo workshop with golf course photographer Jacob Sjöman. After an individual lunch break, drive to Stokmaknes with a visit to the Hurtig Museum. then farewell with dinner together in a restaurant in Stokmaknes and return to your accommodation. Today we ask you to be flexible with your evening arrangements, because if auroras are expected on this day, we offer all interested participants the opportunity to take photographs under supervision.
Day 5 (25.09.2025): Journey home
