When you mention golf resorts on the Black Sea, the first thing that comes to mind is the spectacular cliffs of Thracian Cliffs. But anyone who overlooks BlackSeaRama - the Lighthouse Resort's neighboring course - is missing out on one of the most appealing golf courses in Bulgaria. The Gary Players-designed Par-72 layout may not be right on the cliff edge, but it offers beautiful views of the water.
The resort itself is the boutique version of the three courses in the region: with just 21 hotel rooms, a few private villas, its own winery and an excellent restaurant, it offers an almost family atmosphere. The course is a delightful mix of links and heathland. Especially in spring, red poppy fields turn the round into a feast for the eyes - but if you leave the Fairway, you quickly end up in deep Rough.
You can find many more travel reports from the most beautiful golf courses in the world here.
Characteristic of the layout are the arena-like fairways, where the terrain rises slightly on both sides and often mercifully steers stray balls back to the center of the fairway. Depending on the tee box chosen, the round plays between 4,662 and 6,240 meters. The front nine opens with a short, maneuverable Par-5 that values strategy over pure power.
Hole 4 in particular - the second most difficult hole of the round - turns out to be treacherous: a pond that begins in the bend of the dogleg and reaches right up to the green forces absolute precision. The first Par-3 on hole 5 also demands height and accuracy, as water, high reeds and several bunkers protect the green. The first half concludes with a Par-5 back to the clubhouse.
Here you will find the right luggage for your next golf vacation.
The back nine leads over a small bridge into the second part of the round. Hole 16 is one of the most memorable holes: Water plays a decisive role from the landing zone on the right, and the Fairway hanging to the right adds to the danger.
The crowning glory is hole 18 - a Par-3 over up to 211 meters, which is remotely reminiscent of "Calamity Corner" in Royal Portrush. From the tee, a dip has to be negotiated to reach the elevated green. The cliff falls away steeply on the right, while a pronounced bunker landscape provides protection on the left. The forward-sloping green is a great place to let mishit balls roll down the hill - a dramatic finishing hole that will stay in your memory for a long time.
BlackSeaRama is underestimated by many golfers. Gary Players has created a course that is as beautiful as it is challenging and suits every handicap. After the round, the clubhouse restaurant invites you to linger with local wines and a view of the small amphitheater. This course is a clear recommendation for anyone who wants to discover Bulgaria's golf scene beyond the most prominent names.
