In the heart of Valais, nestled between the imposing mountains of the Rhone Valley, lies Links Leuk, one of the most exciting golf courses in Switzerland. Just a 45-minute drive from Montreux, the resort offers not only a sporting challenge in the style of an inland links course, but also an impressive natural experience. Since the construction of the modern clubhouse and adjoining hotel, Links Leuk has become a popular destination for golfers from Switzerland and abroad - even if the official opening had to wait for a while due to the pandemic. The 18 holes of the Par-72 course range in length from 5,078 to 6,142 meters, with four tee boxes per hole to suit every level of play. Unusual for a links-style course: you return to the clubhouse after nine holes - ideal for players who only want to complete a 9-hole round. The holes themselves are varied in design: Water hazards, doglegs, sloping greens and cleverly placed bunkers ensure a constant alternation between risk and strategy.
The front nine begins with a fair Par-4, followed by a technically challenging Par-3 and a tactical Par-5 with a stream and pond as natural obstacles. The highlight of this half is the sixth hole - a par-4 up to 406 meters long, which requires both length and precision with watercourses and hills. Hole 8 is also memorable: the dogleg left offers long hitters a risky shortcut over the treetops. The back nine continues the varied character. The 13th hole in particular - a long Par-5 with multiple water crossings - demands skill. Hole 14 surprises with a curious detail: a "complaint letterbox" in the middle of the lake makes you smile. After that, things get exciting again: undulating Fairways, narrow doglegs and tricky greens ensure concentration right up to the last shot. The final hole leads back to the clubhouse - a short Par-4 with a stream and deep bunkers that make par difficult even for experienced golfers. The terrace of the clubhouse not only offers the best view of the action, but is also a great place to stop for a bite to eat. The cuisine is regional and the prices are pleasantly moderate by Swiss standards.
A special bonus is the combination of golf with relaxation and an active vacation. Leukerbad, just 16 kilometers away, attracts visitors with its famous "Burgerbad" thermal baths and the cable car to the Gemmi - ideal for hikes with views of the Valais mountains. Numerous hotels in Leukerbad, including the Loretan family's Hotel Alfa, offer golf packages - ideal for guests who want to get a taste of the mountain air but don't want to miss out on a round of golf.
Those who wish can use Leuk as a base for further golfing experiences - for example in Crans Montana, where the Omega European Masters course awaits ambitious players. Links Leuk impresses with its sporting ambition, alpine charm and hospitality that also inspires away from the Fairway. Whether as a golf destination, a stopover on the way to Lake Geneva or a starting point for a combined activity and wellness vacation - this course offers much more than just manicured Fairways and lush greens.
