Terras da Comporta has already made a name for itself in the international golf world with the Dunas Course. Now the Torre Course is the next highlight - designed by none other than Masters winner Sergio Garcia. In mid-June 2025, the course in the south of Portugal was opened for the Preview Players. It is already clear that the Torre Course will secure its place among Europe's best golf courses. It is Garcia's first own course design - and it impressively demonstrates that the Spaniard not only has a flair for strategy and aesthetics on the course, but also on the drawing board. The Torre Course appears more open than its neighbor Dunas, which gives the omnipresent coastal wind more leeway. At the same time, Garcia deliberately quotes classic elements: small, undulating greens, wide Fairways, but with clear boundaries through bunkers and waste areas. The sandy challenges are reminiscent of Scottish links courses - "a lovely day on the beach", as they say in the motherland of golf.
The layout is varied and each hole has its own character. It opens with a gentle dogleg to the left, where the fairway slope and bunker placement immediately show that precision is required. Over the entire round, long and short fairways, strategically placed trees, height differences and treacherously sloping greens alternate. Particularly impressive: hole 7, a 220-metre Par-3 that is a real test due to the wind and bunkering, and hole 17, a difficult Par-3 with overhanging terrain that does not forgive any mistakes. The signature hole for many golfers is hole 9, where a par-5 begins as a dogleg to the left of significantly higher tees and requires precise play between trees and bunkers. Garcia has incorporated many impressions from his professional career - but instead of copying well-known signature holes, he has created a course with its own unique character. The constant alternation between grass and sand, slopes, natural undulations and clever doglegs ensures excitement right up to the last hole. The finale is also particularly successful: hole 18, a long Par-4 with an elevated tee and strategically placed bunker landscape, once again demands everything from the players. With a total length of between 3,825 and 6,670 meters (five tees per hole), the Torre Course is no length monster, but it quickly reveals whether you have chosen the right tee box. The challenge lies in the sophistication of the design.
The course is still at the beginning of its development. The tree population is young, making the course susceptible to wind, but also flooded with light. Future real estate developments around the course will change the overall picture - but the Torre Course is already impressive with its well thought-out design and high playing quality. The service at Terras da Comporta is in no way inferior to the standard of golf. Golfers were provided with personalized bag tags, packed lunches and reusable water bottles for the preview Players - small details that underline the appreciation shown to guests. The Torre Course is an impressive debut from Sergio Garcia - playable, challenging, scenic and a strong statement of modern golf design with classic roots. If you have the opportunity to experience the course early, you should definitely take it. Because one thing is certain: the Torre Course will secure itself a permanent place on the European golf map.
