Ping has introduced the G440 Driver family, which promises more speed and length through technical advances. At the heart of the new series is the lowest center of gravity (CG) ever achieved in a Ping Driver.
To position the CG as low as possible, Ping relies on a Carbonfly Wrap crown for all three models in the G440 series, which saves weight, a flatter clubface and a new "Free Hosel" design. The flatter face allows for more flex and should lead to higher ball speed, especially on hits in the heel area, a common miss for many amateur golfers. The Free Hosel saves weight in the club head and also helps to optimize the center of gravity.
In addition to the low center of gravity, the overall weight of the clubs has also been reduced. Lighter club heads and shafts have reduced the weight by 10 grams compared to the previous generation. At the same time, the standard shafts have been lengthened to enable higher swing speeds. The reduced overall weight should also contribute to more speed.
All three models feature the eight-way adjustable Trajectory Tuning 2.0 hosel, which can be used to adjust the loft and lie to individual requirements. The loft can be adjusted up or down by 1.5 degrees, while the lie can be set up to three degrees flatter.
Ping Driver G440 MAX: The most forgiving model in the series is aimed at most golfers. It has a 29 gram, three-position adjustable weight at the back of the club head, which can be used to influence the trajectory. This can be used to counteract Hook and Slice tendencies.
Ping Driver G440 LST: The LST (Low Spin) Driver was developed for players with higher swing speeds. It puts less spin on the ball and allows more control over the trajectory than the other two versions of the Ping G440 Driver. This model also features a 29 gram adjustable weight.
Ping Driver G440 SFT: The SFT (Straight Flight) Driver was specially developed for golfers who want to correct their Slice. It has a 23 gram weight that can be adjusted in two positions (Draw and Draw+). In addition, the SFT Driver is available in a 9° loft, which is aimed at players with high swing speeds who require a Slice correction.
For golfers with slower swing speeds, all models except the LST Driver are also available in a High Launch (HL) version. These versions feature lighter club heads, the ultra-light Ping Alta Quick shaft and a lighter grip. The even lower weight should enable you to generate more speed and, in combination with the higher launch angle, put more length on the Fairway.
All three models of the PING G440 Driver family are available with a standard shaft at an RRP of 685 euros and are now available in stores.
"One of the main design themes of the G440 Driver family is 'optimization,'" says John K. Solheim, PING CEO and President. "That includes everything from head size and shape to making sure each model fits a specific player profile. Our team has gone to great lengths to ensure that each model offers a solution for every golfer. The MAX suits every level of play, from Tour players to higher handicaps, while the SFT and LST allow fitters to further customize the result to the golfer's needs.
