New golf clubs do not (unfortunately) cure a swing. However, it makes sense to check whether your equipment still suits your game from time to time. And this is exactly what happens during a golf club fitting. Here, your current situation is considered and evaluated, then analyzed to determine whether and which golf clubs are better suited to you. Christopher Buck, PGA Professional and fitting specialist at All4Golf, provides detailed insights into the golf fitting process. He explains the importance of a precise fitting for players of all levels and why even beginners can benefit from a fitting. The interview highlights the measurement parameters that are used to optimize club and ball flight, as well as the benefits that result from an individual club fitting, particularly with regard to improving performance and injury prevention.
Greenfeed: What happens during a fitting and what do golfers get out of it?
Christopher Buck: First of all, we test the current equipment to identify optimization potential. All the major brands are available in our fitting center so that we can try out different clubs. The aim is to find the best combination of club head and shaft for the player and thus optimize the ball flight.
Greenfeed: How does the fitting process work from start to finish?
Christopher Buck: First of all, the player is statically measured. We look at the player's height and the distance from the wrist to the ground to determine whether a shorter or longer shaft is required. We then analyze the club head and ball speed as well as the ball flight to determine tendencies such as left or right spin, high or flat flight curves.
We then go through the various parameters together to see what can be optimized. If the player has a brand preference, different clubs and shafts of that brand are tried out. Otherwise, we test different options to optimize the club to improve the ball flight and thus achieve a noticeable improvement in the golf game.
We can order the clubs directly from the manufacturer here on site. It is then produced exactly according to the specifications, the customer's wishes and the results of the fitting. You can then either pick up the club here at All4Golf in Hanover or we can send it to you.
Greenfeed: What parameters do you look at very closely during the fitting? Does it help me if I know my club head speed or other things beforehand?
Christopher Buck: It definitely helps to know the parameters! We can measure everything precisely with our Trackman system. The club head speed is important, but the ball speed is even more crucial for us. It shows how well the ball is hit and how efficiently the energy of the club head speed is transferred to the ball. We are aiming for a significant improvement here.
Another important parameter is the dispersion of the shot. We want to see a consistent pattern and minimize the deviation of the ball from the target and make it more consistent. Finally, we look at the landing angle. This tells us whether the ball is flying too high or too flat. With irons in particular, it is important that the ball stays on the green and does not roll too far or roll down the front with too much backspin. If the ball flies too high, we also lose length, which is particularly disadvantageous in headwinds.
Greenfeed: Who can get fit? Does that also make sense if I've just started playing golf?
Christopher Buck: Absolutely! Every golfer should get fit. There is so much equipment to choose from these days that it's easy to lose track. The static fitting alone, where the correct length and setting of the club is determined, is essential. It ensures that you can play golf comfortably and without pain. Golf is a sport that can put a strain on the body. A club that is too heavy, too light, too long or too short can restrict movement and lead to pain or injury.
Greenfeed: Which brands does All4Golf fit?
Christopher Buck: We are completely manufacturer-independent and can fit all popular brands. We have Ping, Titleist, TaylorMade, PXG, Callaway, Cobra, Mizuno, Wilson, Srixon, XXIO and Cleveland on site. Our selection is very broad and includes all current models that the manufacturers have on the market.
Greenfeed: Are all clubs fitted, from Driver to Putt? Can I also have balls fitted?
Christopher Buck: Yes, we fit all clubs: from Driver to Irons, Woods, Hybrids, Utility Irons and Wedges - we also take into account the different bounces and grinds of the manufacturers. Putter can also be fitted using our iPing fitting app. Of course, we also offer ball fittings, where we advise customers on which ball is best suited to their game.
Greenfeed: Who fits the customers at All4Golf?
Christopher Buck: We have two PGA professionals on site who carry out the fittings. We are both Trackman-certified, which means that we specialize in interpreting the measured parameters with our expertise in order to find the best results for the golfers.
