Four weeks ago, Nicolai von Dellingshausen won the Austrian Alpine Open, his first tournament on one of the major professional tours. Now he can celebrate as a newly crowned winner in front of his home crowd at the Munich-Eichenried Golf Club. But of course the BMW International Open is also about good placings.
Von Dellingshausen not only achieved a coup with his unexpected victory, but also continued to ride the wave of success that followed. He followed up his victory with two top ten finishes, moving into the top 20 in the season rankings and 178th in the world rankings, both of which are career bests. It's understandable that the 32-year-old says: "I'm relatively relaxed about golf at the moment. I know the course well. I associate a lot of positive emotions with it. Not only did I finish fifth here in 2022, but I also played my first tournament on the DP World Tour, then still the European Tour, here in 2017. I'm really looking forward to the week and I'm in a super positive mood."

Of course, expectations rise with success. But he doesn't want to put himself under pressure: "I'm not aiming for a result. It's worked well over the last few weeks and I'm not going to start doing that now. It has worked well. I'll make sure I bring my game to the golf course as well as I can and then see what comes out of it on Sunday. And until then, I'll enjoy it." However, von Dellingshausen admitted that a home tournament like this is a little different than usual: "I'll be nervous on the first Tee when there are a lot of fans there. It's incredibly inspiring, because the people totally support us, cheer us on and suffer with us. I'm just really looking forward to the week."
Maybe it will work out as well as in Austria, where he "somehow always plays well", even if he doesn't know exactly why. But in the end it doesn't matter, the main thing is that it works. Munich is not that far away from Austria. Perhaps another good omen for the in-form Düsseldorf player.
