The golf world is holding its breath: Tiger Woods has been involved in another serious car accident on Jupiter Island on Friday afternoon. The 15-time major winner was arrested on suspicion of "driving under the influence of alcohol" (DUI) after his car rolled over. The superstar has since been released on bail. As Tiger Woods refused to take a urine test, he now faces serious legal consequences under new Florida law.
The incident occurred at around 2 p.m. local time on the narrow South Beach Road, just a few kilometers from Tiger Woods' home. According to the police report, the 50-year-old in his Land Rover attempted to overtake a truck with a cleaning trailer at a significantly higher speed. In doing so, he hit the rear of the trailer, causing his SUV to tip onto its driver's side.
Although the car skidded a considerable distance across the asphalt, Tiger Woods was able to get out of the vehicle on his own through the passenger window. Sheriff John Budensiek told the press: "It could have turned out much worse". According to initial findings, both Tiger Woods and the other driver were physically unharmed.

Despite a breath alcohol test of 0.0, officers on the scene noted signs of massive impairment. The investigators described Tiger Woods' demeanor as "lethargic". Since no substances were found in the vehicle, the authorities suspect that he was under the influence of drugs.
A critical point in the charges against Tiger Woods is his refusal to take a urine test in prison. In Florida, "Trenton's Law" has been in force since October 2025, which makes even the first refusal of such a test a criminal offense. According to this law, Tiger Woods faces up to 60 days in prison and the revocation of his driver's license. Sheriff Budensiek commented on the golf star's behavior: "He was cooperative, but he didn't want to incriminate himself" (source: GOLF.com).

This is already the fourth serious road traffic incident for Tiger Woods. The series began in 2009 with the famous crash into a fire hydrant in Windermere. in 2017, he was found asleep at the wheel with a mix of painkillers and sleeping pills in his blood. It wasn't until 2021 that Tiger Woods narrowly survived a serious rollover in Los Angeles, which almost led to the amputation of his right leg.
However, experts such as defense attorney Robert Reiff point out that the DUI charge against Tiger Woods could be shaky in court. Woods' physical instability during roadside tests could also be explained by his numerous back and leg surgeries (Source: Yahoo Sports).

The news of the arrest also triggered reactions in the political arena. Former US President Donald Trump, a close friend of the golfer, expressed his shock: "I feel terrible. He has some difficulties... he's an amazing man". Tiger Woods has been in a relationship with Vanesssa Trump, the politician's ex-daughter-in-law, since last year.
In sporting terms, Tiger Woods faces an uncertain future. Just three days earlier, he celebrated his debut in the TGL simulator league. But with the Masters on April 9th just around the corner, a start in Augusta seems a long way off after this incident and the impending legal dispute. Mark Rolfing from the Golf Channel summed it up aptly: "This is a sad day... i just have this really nervous feeling about it"
