In the picturesque Empordà region, just about seven kilometers from Figueres, the TorreMirona Golf & Spa Resort nestles among fields, forests, and the impressive backdrop of the Pyrenees. Designed in 1993 by architects Eugenio Aguado and Jordi Soler, the par-72 course is a classic championship course that meets the demands of ambitious players as well as golfers of all skill levels. The 18 holes span a total length of 5,063 to 6,201 meters and, with four tees per hole, offer fair yet varied playing conditions.
Here you’ll find numerous other travel reports on the world’s most beautiful golf courses.
The first nine holes are characterized by hilly terrain and Fairways that are sometimes narrow, winding through pine trees and Mediterranean forests. Here, a precise and versatile game is required from the tee to the green.
The visual and technical highlight of the first half of the round awaits players on the fifth hole: The par-3 hole there is dominated by a striking island green, completely surrounded by water and framed by strategically placed Bunkers—a hole that is consistently highlighted as the most spectacular on the entire course.
On the back nine, the landscape changes noticeably: The holes are flatter, with generously sized Fairways and Greens. Nevertheless, technical skill and tactical judgment are still required, as numerous par-4 and par-5 holes are dotted with water hazards. Precision is often more important than sheer distance on this section.
Throughout the round, golfers enjoy impressive views of the Pyrenees, complemented by wooded stretches and gentle streams. The end of the round demands special attention: The finale is a double-dogleg Par-5 that players should by no means underestimate. In addition, the challenging breaks on the greens present a constant challenge.
Overall, TorreMirona proves to be a challenging yet consistently fair championship course. While the undulating front nine demands precise play and features the iconic island green, the expansive back nine rewards experienced golfers with tactical play set against a spectacular natural backdrop. With excellently maintained greens, varied bunker placement, and extensive facilities, the course offers both a sporting challenge and a luxurious experience.
