A Round of Golf by Boat: Paraíso del Mar in Mexico

La Paz, the capital of the state of Baja California Sur with a population of about 250,000, is located about a four-hour drive southeast of Loreto. The course, designed by Arthur Hills, is part of the resort of the same name but is also open to day visitors. Worth noting is the excellent value for money, especially for the region. The flat course features five tees and spans a total length of 4,130 to 6,301 meters. Although the course is built in the classic links style, its lush vegetation sets it apart from European links courses: in some places, tee shots are played among palm trees, and wildly growing cacti line the Fairways or block the direct line of play to the flag.

Front Nine: Ocean Views and a Precise Par-3

On the first nine holes, the fairways located directly along the ocean are particularly impressive. In addition to the par-4 on hole 5, which is up to 367 meters long, the second par-3 of the round on hole 6 is especially thrilling, requiring the utmost precision over a maximum distance of 142 meters.

Back Nine: Stunning Views and Thick Rough

The Back Nine also offers impressive views: The first Par-3 of the second half of the round on Hole 14 captivates with its breathtaking scenery and is the most memorable of all the holes.

Also, don’t underestimate the undulating Fairways, which can send the ball rolling in some unexpected directions. On some holes, it quickly becomes clear whether you’ve chosen the tee box that suits your game—otherwise, the ball will end up in the thick Rough filled with cacti and, in some places, very thorny plants.
