The Biblis-Wattenheim Golf Park in the Ried region of southern Hesse offers a successful combination of athletic challenge and exceptional entertainment that is unmatched in the region. Opened in the early 1990s, the facility is part of the Golf Absolute portfolio, whose members can play all ten affiliated courses without paying an additional green fee thanks to the innovative “rotation golf” concept.
But even as a standalone destination, the Golfpark has plenty to offer: In addition to three full-length 9-hole courses, a short course, and extensive practice facilities, the grounds are distinguished by their unique exhibits. A decommissioned DC-3 has found a home in the middle of the course, while a historic steam locomotive and its trailer stand to the left of the ninth green on Course B. For a challenging round, many players choose the combination of the B Course (Crocodile Dundee) and the C Course (Arizona Life), which have a maximum length of 6,406 meters.
Here you’ll find numerous other travel reports on the world’s most beautiful golf courses.
On the Crocodile Dundee loop, golfers don’t have to fear Australian predators, but water becomes a strategic focus instead. After a short opening hole, the 2nd hole is a true mammoth Par-5 stretching up to 555 meters, with a treacherous pond lurking on the left.
However, the following 401-meter par-4 proves to be the absolute key hole: a wide rock ravine divides the fairway here, forcing a strategic decision from the tee. You can either boldly clear the obstacle to attack the green with your second shot, or play it safe. After a few more tricky doglegs, the first half ends with a par-4 peppered with Bunkers, with the DC-3 serving as a landmark in the background.
The C Course lives up to its name, putting sand and rock front and center. The most challenging hole on this loop is the second, a par-5 stretching up to 536 meters that curves tightly to the right around a large pond. Immediately following that, a true architectural highlight awaits on the 3rd hole: The green of this par-5 is designed like an outstretched hand with five fingers, making the Putt a real test of patience.
On the following 201-meter par-3, high-voltage power lines hang over the Fairway, forcing players to hit a low, flat shot. The most famous hole, however, is the 8th, a Par-5 with a right-angled dogleg and a huge waste area at the bend. Tactical players can take a shortcut here, but risk ending up in a bad spot among the rocks or in the sand.
After your round, the excellent Greek cuisine at the Atlantis Blue club restaurant invites you to linger. The adjoining terrace offers a relaxing view of the lake in front of the driving range and the practice facilities—a charming change of pace from the usual clubhouse terraces. The Biblis-Wattenheim Golf Park impressively demonstrates that challenging course design and high entertainment value harmonize perfectly.
