Chiemgau in Bavaria is one of the most popular vacation regions in Germany. Quality-oriented golfers will find a true oasis of well-being and one of the best golf resorts in Germany at "Das Achental" in Grassau. The owners and hosts are the married couple Ursula and Dieter Müller, the latter also known as the founders of the extremely successful Motel One hotel group. In the 1950s, the estate was still a riding stables, but has since developed into a luxury resort that pampers not only golfers but also non-golfers with excellent services. In addition to the hotel with its local-style rooms and suites, this includes an extensive range of wellness facilities, a fitness room that is also perfect for golfers and a spa. The resort is known far beyond Germany's borders for its culinary delights; the fine dining restaurant ESSENZ belongs to the exclusive group of 3-Michelin star restaurants in Germany. Those who prefer rustic dining can enjoy the Hubertus Hütte. Always at the center: a clear focus on the guest and the customer experience. The entire resort is also very dog-friendly: golfers can take their dogs with them on a round, and if owners want to enjoy wellness, for example, the hotel staff will also provide a dog-walking service on request.
Golfers can look forward to the 18-hole golf course designed by Thomas Himmel. It is largely flat with a wonderful view of the foothills of the Alps, so it can also be completed on foot. Those who prefer to complete the round by cart can hire one on site - including the latest GPS system. Although the Par 72 course with a maximum length of 5,835 meters does not require long-hitter qualities, it should not be underestimated. This is ensured by the varied design, including numerous water hazards and dense, high Rough. Thanks to special junior tees for children with a DGV golf badge or license to play, the course is also ideal for family rounds. The front nine plays as a Par 37, while the back nine is a Par 35. Precision is required on this course rather than long-hitting skills. The role that water plays can be seen for the first time on hole 3, a Par 3 up to 164 meters long, whose green is completely framed by the wet element. Water now comes into play more and more often, including on the last hole of the front nine, the second Par 5, with water to the left of the green. There is a halfway after the tenth hole, a maximum 143-meter short Par 3 with water on the left - under the critical gaze of the guests on the terrace of Seehütte10. Afterwards, you have earned your halfway with regional dishes - after all, the special course rule of a 15-minute halfway break is recommended. The second part of the round also alternates between a varied course layout, Rough and water. On hole 14, the most difficult of the round, a stream divides the Fairway into two halves. The final hole, a Par 4, dogleg right, is also very challenging, as a pond defends the green at the front, with high reeds making it difficult to see the flag depending on the season.
If you want to improve your golf game during your stay, you can take coaching lessons or courses at the local golf academy and Performance Studio. Trackman and - for bad weather and the cold season - an indoor simulator are also available.
The Achental is a very successful combination of golf, enjoyment and excellent service. The focus here is not on the score, but on the feel-good factor.
