The German women's team rewarded themselves by winning the bronze medal at the European Team Championships. The European Championships for women, girls, men and boys took place simultaneously from July 8 to 12, 2025.
In bright sunshine and sometimes sweltering heat in Chantilly, France, Germany showed remarkable willpower in the small final against strong Swedes and won the bronze medal with a score of 4.5:2.5. The title went to Spain, who beat France in the final.
The Germans arrived as defending champions - with a strong line-up: Susanna Brenske, Christin Eisenbeiß (both Hamburg GC), Charlotte Back, Chiara Horder, Stella Jelinek and Paula Schulz-Hanßen (all GC St. Leon-Rot). "The European Team Championship was definitely a highlight of my season," said Stella Jelinek from GC St. Leon-Rot. "I had incredible fun with the girls and am glad that I was able to experience it." National coach Nicole Gögele was deeply impressed by the team and their prospects: "I'm simply proud. They never gave up, no matter where they were. We were able to get everything out of them that was possible this week. As coaches here, we have taken over what Esther Poburski in particular has built up. What comes next gives us hope for German women's golf, but also for the Tour."
In Slaley/England, the girls of Junior Team Germany lose a nerve-wracking bronze medal match against Ireland 4:3. The Spanish team wins the European Championship with a 4.5:2.5 against Italy.
Sophie Bingel (G&LC Berlin-Wannsee), Maya Burmann, Laetitia Leisinger (both GC St. Leon-Rot) and Sophie Renner (Stuttgart GC Solitude) made their European Championship debut. They were joined by Antonia Steiner (GC Hubbelrath) and Sofia Maier-Borst (GC St. Leon-Rot).
The small final was only decided in a play-off between Sophie Bingel and Hannah Lee-Mc Namara. Sophie Renner sums up the day in words: "The day was definitely very exciting and we fought for a long time. We all gave it our all, and Sophie in particular really pulled out all the stops for our team in the play-off right up to the last Putt. Unfortunately, we had to admit defeat in the end and finished the tournament in fourth place. I think we can take a lot from the week. A lot of good things happened and we did a lot of things well, even if it will certainly take some time before we can realize that and the disappointment has subsided somewhat." National coach Sebastian Rühl summed up: "We can't blame ourselves too much - we gave a top performance. Our putters were pretty cold all week and in the really important moments the crucial things didn't happen."
Killarney Golf & Fishing Club hosted the European Men's Team Championship. The title went to the Italian team, who defeated Denmark in the final. England secured bronze.
The German team traveled to Ireland with Wolfgang Glawe, Tom Haberer, Yannick Malik, Peer Wernicke (all GC Hubbelrath) as well as Tim Wiedemeyer and Finn Kölle (both GC St. Leon-Rot). After the bitter loss to Denmark in the quarter-finals, the dream of a medal was shattered early on. After another defeat against the defending champions from Sweden, they also lost the match for seventh place against France by 0.5 to 4.5.
There was a home victory at the boys' European Team Championships in the Czech golf resort of Kaskáda. The Czech boys' national team beat defending champions France in a dramatic final. Bronze goes to Sweden.
In the match for seventh place, a draw against the Netherlands was enough for the German boys. As there is no play-off in the placement round, the better result from the counting game qualification decides in Germany's favor. Junior Team Germany was made up of Colin Bärmann (Burgdorfer GC), Leo Böhm (GC Olching), Leopold Heß (G&LC Holledau), Leonas Jung (GC St. Leon-Rot), Anton von l'Estocq (GC Feldafing) and Bjarne Murr (Münchener GC).
